2013 VERSITA MILESTONES
1. Versita expands activities. The company changes name to De Gruyter Open.
Versita’s owner De Gruyter has accumulated all Open Access activities under a single, new imprint - De
Gruyter Open [www.degruyteropen.com]. Versita has been fully integrated into this new entity.
Already, De Gruyter Open’s portfolio consists of more than 100 books and over 350 journals. In 2013
alone, Versita published over 15.000 journal articles in Open Access. With the introduction of De
Gruyter Open in 2014, the company plans further to expand activities beyond Europe into the USA and
Asia. All Open Access titles are published under the Creative Commons License CC-BY-NC-ND.
However, authors and partner institutions have the option to use more liberal license agreements if
they so choose.
2. De Gruyter Open introduces Crosscheck free of charge for all Customers to ward off plagiarism
As a leading open access publishing services provider, De Gruyter Open is committed to maintaining
high quality of publications by its Learned Societies clients. In accordance with its policy of meticulous
peer-review, De Gruyter Open has implemented CrossCheck to assist Learned Societies with robust
tools to assure the authenticity of the contents of deposited articles. With this improvement the
publisher aims to detect and act upon any signs of scientific misconduct and prevent any duplication
of research to appear on De Gruyter Online.
3. Journal Citation Report adds more De Gruyter Open titles to its list
New journals from De Gruyter Open portfolio have been selected for the first time to be included in
the Journal Citation Report in 2013.
For majority of De Gruyter Open journals, the JCR report has recorded the second consecutive
increase in Impact Factor. In 2013 the company has also initiated cooperation with a variety of
specialist services.
