SUMMARY
Operates and maintains the Water Treatment Supply Facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:
Water Production Operator I:
1. Operates and maintains the water treatment facilities and related water production facilities.
2. Answers telephone and operates plant control computer.
3. Drives pickup, lawn care equipment, forklift, dump truck, and other related equipment.
4. Performs building maintenance and janitorial duties.
5. Maintains records and logs.
6. Performs water sampling testing.
7. May use gas and arc welding equipment, metal lathe and other tools to fabricate or repair components.
8. Must be willing to work variable hours for shift work and possible on-call.
Water Production Operator II:
1. Drives 10 ton crane.
2. May do plumbing, carpentry and concrete work.
3. Performs preventative maintenance on related equipment.
Water Production Operator III:
1. Trouble shoots equipment and process failure.
2. Installs and sets up new equipment and machinery.
3. Assists the Water Production Supervisor in developing and carrying out safety and employee training.
4. May act as lead person in absence of supervisor.

Education and/or Experience: Water Production Operator I: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and experience
as required by the South Dakota Department of Natural Resource. Water Production Operator II: High school diploma or general
education degree (GED) and two years experience in Class I water operations or two years in a Class II or higher facility. Water
Production Operator III: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years experience in Class II water
operations or three years in a Class II or higher facility.
Communication Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other
employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability
to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer and Administrative Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office
products.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: All Levels: Must possess Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes or ability to
obtain within 90 days from date of hire. Water Production Operator I: Ability to obtain Class I Water Treatment Operator's Certification
as stated in the minimum qualifications for licensing by the State of South Dakota Board of Operator Certification, South Dakota
Department of Environment and Natural Resources within 18 months from date of hire. Water Production Operator II: Ability to obtain
Class II Water Treatment Operator's Certification as stated in the minimum qualifications for licensing by the State of South Dakota Board
of Operator Certification, South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources within 18 months from date of hire. Water
Production Operator III: Ability to obtain Class III Water Treatment Operator's Certification as stated in the minimum qualifications for
licensing by the State of South Dakota Board of Operator Certification, South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources
within 18 months from date of hire.
