When Brady Dragmire takes his last at bat for the
Bradshaw Christian baseball team this spring, it
will mark the end of one era and the beginning of
a new one.
The do-it-all athlete with more talents than a
multi-tool has left a Rushmore-sized mark on the
Pride’s record books, excelling in football,
basketball and baseball during a stellar four-year
prep career.

After helping the Pride to a Section baseball title
as a junior, Brady came up just short in football and basketball.
A two-way standout, the 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pound senior totaled 2,019 yards, 33 touchdowns and 109 total
tackles on the football field. He contributed 11 points per game, five rebounds and nearly three steals for the
basketball team, which fell to Vacaville Christian in the section final.
And while the Bradshaw Christian coaching staff will no doubt miss him, they can take solace in the fact that
the next generation of Dragmire is right around the corner.

Brady’s younger brother, Grant, is an eighth-grader at Bradshaw and appears ready and able to step into
his brother’s large shoes.
“He’s a great role model,” Grant said. “And it’s been nice to follow in his footsteps and see all the things
he’s done. It makes me think that if I work at it hard enough, that could be me some day. It’s cool to have a
big brother like that and when I walk around with him and hear people saying, ‘Hey, that’s Brady Dragmire,’
it makes me proud.”
For his part, Brady relishes his role as a trailblazer for his brother.
“We have arguments about who was taller or who did what at what age,” said Brady, who will play on
scholarship at the University of Nevada, Reno next fall. “But I really like helping him out and seeing where
he’s going. I try to tell him to keep a level head because you never know who’ll be out here watching. As
long as he plays his game each day and does what he needs to do, he’ll be fine.”

Like his brother, Grant plays multiple positions and multiple sports: Football (fullback, quarterback),
basketball (point guard, forward) and baseball “anywhere the coach needs me except first base because I’m
not tall enough yet.”
And while Grant admits he does feel added pressure at times, positive feedback from the family is never far
away.
“I hear it all the time around here (Bradshaw),” Grant said. “People say ‘You’ve got some big shoes to fill.’
Sometimes I feel like I’ll let my family down if I don’t do well, but my mom (Jackie) always says, ‘Just keep

doing what you can do and everything will work itself out.’”
Competition among the brothers is fierce, but friendly, and often involves other members of their extended
family. Hotly contested Whiffle ball games take place on the asphalt diamond in front of the Dragmire home
in Elk Grove nearly every weekend.
“The games can get pretty intense,” said the boy’s father, Kirk, himself a three-sport star at Dunsmir High
near Mt. Shasta. “We painted bases on the street in front of our house and we try to get everyone together
at least three times a month. It’s fun to have everyone so athletic.”
Competition of any kind is anything but casual and only stands to get tougher as the kids get older.
Partners
By next fall, all sixof Grant and Brady’s cousins – Avery (14) and Lauren (11), Morgan (14) and Riley (12)
and Alex (12) and Lindsay (7) – attend Bradshaw, and all play multiple sports.
“Everybody in the family is softball and baseball oriented,” Grant said. “But they also play soccer, basketball,
football, volleyball, you name it. They’re all athletes. It’s a non-stop thing for us.”
Although Grant is still waiting for his growth spurt, Bradshaw Christian baseball coach Drew Rickert says he
is ahead of his brother in many aspects.
“Brady was a little bigger at his age (13), but not a whole lot,” Rickert said. “But Grant’s a little more refined
and skilled because he’s had his older brother to show him the way. If he ends up like Brady, he’ll be fine.
He does everything very well and it won’t be long before he’s up here with us.”
