The Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapy
in Montpellier seeks new group leaders in stem cell
biology or Immunology
The Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapy (IRMB) associates the University Hospital of
Montpellier (CHU Montpellier), the INSERM and the University Montpellier (UM). It is composed of 4
research groups, and gathers 150 scientists & engineers with scientific & medical expertise on
regenerative medicine, stem cells biology as well as immunology. The objectives of IRMB are to increase
the knowledge of stem cell biology, interactions between stem cells and immune cells, stem cell niches and
homing, as well as the role of epigenetics mechanisms in chronic and age-related diseases. These
researches include both basic biological aspects and innovative applications of regenerative therapy.
IRMB combines on a single site the INSERM unit U1183, hospital laboratories, private companies gathered
around common technical platforms and two national infrastructures in health biology dedicated to stem
cells. The IRMB is a leading research INSERM institute in stem cell research and immunology in the south
of France. IRMB members closely interact with other Institutes belonging to the biomedical health cluster
“Pole Rabelais”.
Research at the institute covers fundamental and translational aspects of biology, with focus on:





Cell reprogrammation, ageing, epigenetics
Mesenchymal stem cell biology
Innovative Immunotherapy
Cell therapy Transposition to the clinic
Bioinformatics and molecular modelling
IRMB is recruiting new junior/senior group leaders (for ex ATIP/AVENIR laureate) to start January 2017.
Successful candidates will be expected to establish a world-class research program reinforcing these
topics, in an interactive and supportive environment. All projects with the potential to synergize with
IRMB topics will be considered, including interdisciplinary projects. New group leaders will receive
laboratory space (including 2 offices, conventional lab and L2) and access to multiple technological
platforms, including cutting-edge imaging facility hosted by IRMB. The Institute benefits from state-of-theart platforms dedicated to imaging, proteomics, animal facilities (zebrafishes, and transgenic mice), deep
sequencing and transcriptomics, FACS sorting, and confoncal imaging. IRMB is both part of the national
ECELLfrance (National infrastructure) dedicated to stem cell based regenerative medicine applications
and to the INGESTEM (National infrastructure) for iPSC based clinical developments as well as participant
to the French Laboratories of Excellence programme (Labex Epigenmed).
Montpellier is a dynamic and attractive Mediterranean city in an exceptional research environment. It is
home to many high quality research institutes, a vibrant student population and one of the world’s oldest
medical schools. If interested, the applicant should send CV, letter of motivation and summary of scientific
project in max. 2 pages before 30 September 2016, for a final decision 20 December 2016.
