The children`s potato plants need to be brought into school on

9th September 2016
Dear Parents / Carers,
The Coniscliffe Leek Club are holding their annual show on Saturday 17th September at the Baydale
Beck. In addition to the leek classes, which are for members only, the Show features a wide range of open
classes for vegetables, flowers, wines and home baking and of course the thriving children’s section which
every year our children greatly enjoy entering. These classes are:
Vase of Wild Flowers
Saucer of Wild Fruit
Collage
Vegetable animal
3 cup cakes
The children can bring their entries to school on Friday 16th September and members of the Leek Club will
transport them down to the Baydale Beck ready for the show. If the children are in need of some
inspiration why not have a look at the archive on the website to see last year’s entries:

The children’s potato plants need to be brought into
school on MONDAY 12th September to be weighed.
(NB New starters – each year the children are given a bucket, a seed potato
and some instructions to enter this competition. They have been nurturing their
potatoes for several months and soon we will know who has been the most
successful. Your children will be able to enter for next year)
Most of the produce entered for the Show is kindly left by the exhibitors for public auction the next day,
with the proceeds going to local charities. All produce is on display at the Show on Saturday afternoon
(from 1.00pm) so you can take a good look at what’s going to be on offer. The auction itself on the Sunday
(also from 1.00pm) is a very light hearted affair after the serious business of the Show and starts with
the presentation of the children’s awards.
