Harry E. Kight Music Scholarship 2017
Dear Student,
The Williamsport, MD Community Band invites you to apply for a scholarship. The purpose of scholarship is to help fund
part of your education in a degree with a focus on music. There is no cost to apply. Simply fill out the enclosed
application and return it to the address given by the deadline.
Purpose of Scholarship
The Harry E. Kight Student Musician Scholarship presented by the Williamsport, MD Community Band is intended to
offset the costs of education in a collegiate music program. Costs and expenses could include but are not limited to:
 Instrument purchases
 Room and board
 Textbooks
 Meal plans
The scholarship shall benefit a student accepted to or enrolled in a collegiate music program. The scholarship is open to
any student in the Tri-State area who has been accepted to or is currently enrolled in a collegiate music program (proof
of acceptance or enrollment is required).
Scholarship Amount
Scholarship monies will not exceed $1,000.
The scholarship committee reserves the right to award more than one scholarship if they find several applicants eligible
and deserving.
Application Deadline
Applications (and all requirements for the application) must be postmarked on or before April 28, 2017.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist in the costs of education for a student accepted to or enrolled in a
collegiate music degree program. The scholarship monies awarded will be a maximum of $1,000. The
scholarship committee reserves the right to award more than one scholarship if they find several applicants
eligible and deserving.

Another requirement for eligibility and award will be letters of recommendation from (2) teachers of
your choice. (1) of these letters is required from a music teacher. These letters are to be returned in a sealed
envelope by April 28, 2017. We have attached (2) copies of a letter that you may give to your teachers that
explains the scholarship and instructions for submission.
The final requirement for eligibility and award is the submission of a short video presentation. The video
should not exceed three minutes in length and the applicant may choose excerpts from a piece or pieces of
their choice. Please submit either a hard copy of the audition video with the application or email the file

We, the Williamsport, MD Community Band, plan to award our fourth Harry E. Kight Music Scholarship. This
scholarship award will be used for the 2017-2018 school year. One of the requirements for the applicants is to
acquire (2) letters of recommendation from teachers of their choice (one being a music teacher).
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist in the costs of education for a student accepted to or enrolled in a
