Large Allen Cognitive Level Screen

Large Allen Cognitive Level Screen
AKA: ‘Allens’ / LACLS / Leather lacing tool
Who can use the LACLS?
Occupational Therapists who have undergone the training. This is a 3 day course which outlines
the underlying model, how to use the tool itself and how to use the ‘Routine Task Inventory’
Which client group?
Anyone with a suspected deficit in their cognition, whether it be from LD, depression or dementia.
It is not a diagnostic tool, but will demonstrate how the cognitive deficit affects the person’s level of
functioning.
Governance
The OT must be trained; use the tool in the standardised way it has been designed and use the
evidence based ‘Performance Modes’ to complete their report.
The tool must not be used in isolation, but as a wider assessment, taking in the specific
presentation of the individual.
This trust provides a time limited ‘special interest group’ following each training to support trained
OTs to develop their skills and confidence.
