Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. It is estimated that more than 10 million Americans are unknowing, symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene, which means they are at a greater risk for having a child with the disease. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment, and ensuring access to highquality, specialized care. The CF Cycle For Life is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s premiere cycling event. Medical evidence shows that certain bacteria can be passed between individuals who have CF and can lead to worse symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To limit the serious risk of cross-infection between people with CF, at any outdoor event, people with CF should maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from each other.
