Into the Light, celebrating 50 queer years.
Please see below for more information about the project and how to get
involved.
Into the Light is a new performance created by award-winning choreographer
Gary Clarke, which will be performed in Hull’s Queen Victoria Square on
Saturday 29 July.
Into The Light is part of LGBT 50, marking fifty years since the partial
decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK.
There are various routes in, which cater for people who just want to dip their
toes in, or for those who are committed to attending the rehearsals and being
part of the performance in July.

what you want to take part in. Whatever it is, we guarantee it will be a

Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for people aged 14+ from the LGBT+ community and friends and their families. You don’t need to
have any performance experience.
How Can You Take Part?
Share your stories and experiences and help shape the performance
We are looking for existing groups and individuals to come along and share their stories about their experiences
of living in Hull and how the start of the decriminalisation of homosexuality 50 years ago may have had an impact
on their lives, then and now. The stories will be used to help shape the project.
You can do this by attending one of the open workshops, or if you want Gary Clarke to come along to your group to
deliver a workshop then please contact Sarah Shooter [email protected]

Come along and learn more about the project, share your stories, experience the style of movement we will be
working on and be creative!

Be in the Performance
We are seeking up to 42 participants to join 8 professional dance artists – a strong cast of 50 people, to be part
of Into the Light.
Choreographer Gary Clarke will work with you over a series of weekends in June and July, creating and shaping
the performance. The final piece will be performed as part of the LGBT 50 festival - The Duckie Summer Tea Party
in Queen Victoria Square on Saturday 29 July.

All rehearsals take place at Hull College, Horncastle Building, HU1 2PD. The performance takes place in Queen Victoria
Square. Please indicate which, if any date, you cannot attend. Please note that you must be able to attend the 24th June, 26,
28 & 29 July and at least 3 other rehearsals priority will be given to people who can attend all the rehearsals.
