PRESS RELEASE
DEANTHONY BOWDEN TO PLAY NEW ROLE FOR LIGHTNING
For Immediate Release
October 2, 2013
The London Lightning Basketball Club is extremely happy to announce that DeAnthony Bowden will be
returning to the London Lightning as an Assistant General Manager. DeAnthony played a very important role
for the London Lightning during the first two seasons in the National Basketball League of Canada. Not only
did he produce at a high level on the court, but he has been a true ambassador for the team off the court.
DeAnthony has spent countless hours with the youth of London through basketball clinics, school visits, and
charitable initiatives. During the summer months General Manager, Taylor Brown and Owner, Vito Frijia
approached DeAnthony about playing a different role for the team during the 2013-2014 season, and after
much consideration DeAnthony accepted the position with the team.
Bowden’s role will include dealing with player personal matters, media/public relations, community and
charitable appearances, and orchestrating London Lightning youth programs. “The number one goal of the
London Lightning has and will always be to assist the London community as much as possible and we couldn’t
have picked a better person to help us achieve this goal,” says, Taylor Brown. “DeAnthony could have played
a few more years, but the timing was right for him to start his new basketball career from the management
side. We realize that there will be a lot of upset fans, but the main thing is that DeAnthony is still part of the
London Lightning family and he can help us grow as a franchise”
DeAnthony had this to say about the change in role. “First of all, I would like to give thanks to Vito and the
entire London Lighting organization for this opportunity. All though my decision to leave the playing floor took
place during several conversations between my family and I, ultimately we decided that this was an
opportunity that we couldn't pass up. The city of London has embraced us with open arms through my
commitments to help bring championships to London. I must admit that it gives a level of achievement
knowing that your efforts on the basketball court receive recognition with your efforts in the community as
well. I've never heard of a player going straight from the court to management, and with that being said I look
forward to working beside Taylor Brown and the rest of our team in our efforts to keep the organization
successful. Huge THANKS to fans, you guys are amazing!”
