Mr. Stevenson is ordering shirts and hats for his Boy Scout troop. There
are 45 scouts in the troop. Hats come in packs of 3, and shirts come in
packs of 5. What is the least number of packs of each he should order to
so that each scout will have 1 hat and 1 shirt, and none will be left over?
LCM(3, 5) = 15 Note that he has 45 scouts so 3 x 15 scouts.
He will need 15 packages of hats and 9 packages of shirts because 15 x 3
=45 and 5 x 9 = 45.

There are 40 girls and 32 boys who want to participate in the relay race.
If each team must have the same number of girls and boys, what is the
greatest number of teams that can race? How many boys and girls will
be on each team?
GCF (40, 32) = 8 or 8(5) +8(4) He can make 8 teams with 5 boys and 4 girls
on each team .

Challenge question ! This is a toughie! Try it. Mr. Simon wants to make
packages of art supplies for his students. Pads of paper come 4 to a box,
pencils come 27 to a box, and erasers come 12 to a box. What is the least
number of kits he can make if he wants each kit to be the same and he
wants no supplies left over? How many boxes of paper must he buy?

LCM(4, 27, 12) = 108 He can make 108 packages. He must buy 27 boxes
of paper, and 4 boxes of pencils and 9 boxes of erasers.
