Leaf Collection/Recycling:
The Town of Wallkill Highway Dept. collects leaves in the Storm Water Phase II MS-4 desginated neighborhoods once a year in the Fall.
The collected leaves are stockpiled, composted, and then made available as free mulch to our residents the following year. Leaf collection will begin
on November 1st and end on November 30th. Although weather and other factors beyond our control make it impossible to set a definite schedule,
below is a tentative schedule for when leaves will be picked up in your area. Please note that if we experience our first plowable snowfall in
November, the leaf collection wilf end regardless of where we are in the schedule. *
The leaves can be raked to the edge of the road or placed in bags near the edge of the road. By placing the leaves in bags, you will avoid the
frustration of raking leaves just to have the wind blow them around before they are picked up. Do not place leaves on the pavement or over catcll
basins! Leaf pickup will not be performed within ten feet of parked cars for safety reasons. If you have bagged leaves, please call us and let us know;
the bags can generally be picked up quickly as they do not require the special equipment that loose leaves do.
As always, we have a yard at the Highway Department where you are welcome to bring your leaves. There is no charge for this service.
