Previous Employment
April 2017 – Work Experience at Charlton Baker
Recently, I completed a weeks work experience in an Accounting Firm. I gained experience in using both Sage
and Xero accounting software, as well as putting together end of year accounts and tax computations. This
week in practice reassured me that Accounting is the industry for me.
October 2011 – Present, Pizza Hut: Waitress
Working for a large franchise in the hospitality sector has enabled me to develop and enhance an extensive
range of skills from communication to customer care to time keeping, teamwork and organisational skills. As a
waitress, essentially, it was my job to look after the customers. Working in this environment will help me in all
future job roles as it has given me excellent customer service skills which will always be necessary.
September 2011 – September 2013, Bon Marche: Sales Assistant
Bon Marche provided me relevant retail knowledge and the experience to work as part of a retail corporation.
It allowed me to make connections with a number of people on a professional and on a social basis as well as
developing my confidence, social skills, time keeping and customer interactions.
Core Skills
 Customer Service: I have developed excellent customer service skills whilst working in a retail and
hospitality environment. Whilst working in a restaurant, this involved resolving customer queries as
well as having the mind-set to make customers feel welcomed and valued, which was especially
important when dealing with customer complaints. Resolving customer issues usually required offering
the best alternatives available and ensuring the customer left with a positive outlook of the company.
 Effective communication: My work experiences involved communicating with customers on a daily
basis where it was important to relay confidence. At one instance, whilst working at Bon Marche, I dealt
with a secret shopper who was looking for a particular item. We did not have this item in stock so I
offered to phone neighbouring stores. Ultimately the feedback we received was very positive stressing
the secret shopper felt welcomed and well accommodated. While studying, I have used every
opportunity to develop and enhance my confidence in communication of ideas and presentational skills.
 Effective Team Work: I have been required to work as a team with my colleagues during all of my
work experiences - listening, emphasising, and communicating with my colleagues and standing my
ground appropriately. This being emphasised in my most recent work at Pizza Hut, as it was important
to co—ordinate with my colleagues to ensure efficiency was in place. This included splitting the
restaurant into sections and allocating them. Working as a team also included us helping each other out
when needed, for example running any food or drinks that were ready or cleaning recently vacated
tables.
 High level of organisation: Being organised has always been an extremely important skill during my
work experiences, especially as I was able to maintain two jobs whilst also completely my A Levels. My
work in the retail and hospitality environment has also enabled me to develop this skill, as well as my
time management and leadership skills.
 Ability to multitask under pressure: Working in a restaurant this was the most important skill I felt I
had to master. Being a waitress requires you to look after a section of tables, whilst taking orders,
serving food and drinks, clearing tables and, most importantly, ensuring the customers are looked after.
Positions of Responsibility
June 2012 – June 2013, Sixth Form Prefect
As a prefect I would attend monthly meetings to convey the views and concerns of my peers to senior members
of staff as well as carry out any action required from these meetings. For example, the other prefects and myself
were able to implement home study for those who teachers felt would benefit most from it. This role helped me
to become more responsible during my school career.
September 2012 – June 2013, Student Mentor
I was matched with a Year 11 student who I met with on a one to one weekly basis to discuss any problems he
was having and to also help him through his exams by arranging a revision timetable and also passing on
revision tips that had helped with my own exams.
IT Skills
 Good use of Microsoft applications, in particular Excel and Word, for which I have a good understanding
of formulas, including vlookups and pivot tables.
 Basic knowledge of Sage software.
Interests and Activities
 Sports: Huge interest in fitness and playing sports – I have previously been part of a Netball team and I
am currently a frequent user of my local gym.
 Travel: Enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures.
 Reading: Enjoy reading, in particular novels.
