THE ROYAL CORK YACHT CLUB Match Racing Mondays Starting Monday the 04th of May NOTICE of RACE 1 INTRODUCTION • The Match Racing shall consist of one boat teams and will be sailed in 1720’s, Boats are supplied by the organizing authority. 2 ORGANISING AUTHORITY • The organizing authority is The Royal Cork Yacht Club. 3 RULES • 3.1 The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) including Appendix C, Match Racing Rules • 3.2 Races May be umpired. • 3.3 In accordance with RRS 70.5(a) the right of appeal will be denied. 4 ENTRIES • 4.1 A team of four is required to enter with a minimum of two RCYC members on each team • 4.2 The entry fee will be €20 per team of 4, each evening. • 4.3 Each team will be liable for the cost of damage to boats, equipment and property up to a maximum of €500 per incident. Damage attributed to competitors generally or to an unidentified team will be attributed equally between all teams. A team may THE ROYAL CORK YACHT CLUB Match Racing Mondays apply to the protest committee to determine their responsibility for any damage. 5 EVENT FORMAT AND SCHEDULE • 5.1 First gun for race one will be 18.25 every Monday evening between May and August 2015. • 5.2 May 04th 2015 will be an introduction evening and race results will not count for the over all league. It will be used to get all teams up to speed with the format of match racing. • 5.3 The race area will be in the vicinity of cage (C2) mark under Camden. • 5.4 teams that are not racing will do Race officer for the other teams. • 5.5 Each evening we will attempt to complete one round robin and teams will be awarded point based on their placing at the end of the round robin, which will in turn go towards the finals that will be raced on the last Monday of every month with a grand finale the end of August. 6 BUOYANCY AND CLOTHING • Adequate personal flotation devices shall be worn by all competitors at all times when afloat. 7 RISK STATEMENT • 7.1 Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: "The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.“ THE ROYAL CORK YACHT CLUB Match Racing Mondays Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that: (a) They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event; (b) They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore; (c) They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions; (d) Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate; (e) The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event organizer does not relieve them of their own responsibilities; (f) The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances. 8 PRIZES Prizes will be awarded at the end of every month to the top three team, and spot prizes may also be awarded. STARTING PROCEDURE • 9.1 At her preparatory signal, each boat shall be outside the line that is at a 90º angle to the starting line through the starting mark at her assigned end. In the pairing list, the boat listed on the left-hand side is assigned the port end and shall display a blue flag at her stern while racing. The other boat is assigned the starboard end and shall display a yellow flag at her stern while racing. • 9.1 Within the two-minute period following her preparatory signal, a boat shall cross and clear the starting line, the first time from the course side to the pre-start side. 10 SAMPLE ROUND ROBIN THE ROYAL CORK YACHT CLUB Match Racing Mondays 11.
