conferences/meetings-doors locked until 8:30.

All About Our Class
24 eager, energetic, and
delightful students in
Room 9
Class Mottos
Be your best
Try your best
Worry about yourself
(very important especially with
all the differentiated instruction
taking place in the class)
Mindset Matters
 Fixed: One where we believe our children’s innate
abilities, talents, and intelligence are fixed. They are
either “good” or talented at something or they are not.
They can learn new things, but this skill or subject isn’t
really their “thing”.
 Growth: the belief that intelligence, skills, and
talent are malleable, and they can change with
effort, perseverance, and practice.
We are a GROWTH mindset class!!
The power of YET!
 Adopt the word “YET” into your vocabulary.
When your child says: I can’t do the math, dribble a ball,
hula hoop, play the piano, etc.
You remind him that he can’t “yet” but with hard work
he/she will have success.
Avoid comparing to others-achievement is not a
competition. There is enough success for everyone
….a lot more on this to come throughout the year
•Parents and teachers
work together to
provide the best
educational environment
possible.
•We want to create
independent learners
who are intrinsically
motivated to succeed.
•We are here to help
children succeed and
capture the love of
learning.
•We are acting as
facilitators guiding the
child- we must let them
do their work.
•Flexibility is essential
as we work together.
•Cell phones should be
on vibrate mode while in
the class.
•If you must answer a
call then please take it
outside.
Confidentiality is REQUIRED!
Always talk to me about any issues or
concerns
Themes for Learning and Understanding
1.Citizenship
2.Changes Over Time
3.Celebrating Cultures
4.Observing the World Around Us
5.Our Living World
6.Meeting Our Needs
We will also provide students with grade level standards-based reading skills such as knowledge of letter
sounds, short and long vowels, diphthongs, digraphs, blends, compound words, and contractions.
•Through the stories presented, the students will predict, infer, and use comprehension skills to dissect
the story. They will be practicing correct sequencing of sentences and grammar skills, using syntax. Along
with this reading program, we will use a variety of other reading books in order to meet the needs of all
children.
•We also use a supplementary Phonics workbook by Modern Curriculum Press.
• There is ample opportunity for writing. Each day the
•

•
students will do some type of writing. We begin with
simple sentences, and then move into writing short
paragraphs, focusing on one topic.
We will be working to write for fun and expression.
Also learning narratives, opinion writing, and
informational writing.
We also do interactive writing, group writing, and
cross-curricular writing.
Writers Workshop will continue this year!
Look forward to another inservice on writing!
Math
Math In Focus/CGI

Math In Focus will present challenging grade level concepts.

Weekly CGI practice and word problems will challenge students to explain their
thinking and to show different ways to solve problems.

Counting, word problems, and algebraic thinking are just a few concepts taught.

Addition and subtraction are taught in many different ways in order to foster a
deeper understanding of the concepts.

We will also work on telling time, counting money and geometry.

- we will dive deeper into math at our Math inservice.

Differentiated instruction is meeting the needs of all learners.
Small group instruction makes this possible- Cornerstone Makes
this possible!!!
We will have different reading groups that are working on the skills
necessary to be most successful and master the standards. The
group will challenge the child but not frustrate him/her.
You will see: different books being read, different writing
assignments, different expectations, and growth in your child.
We also differentiate instruction in math groups.
Our RTI(Response to Intervention) program runs 5 days a week to
help kids reach grade level learning goals.

Thank you for making this possible!!!
Students will learn about
body structure, healthy
eating, and good
sportsmanship.
Kids will need to wear comfortable
clothes and shoes EVERY day so that we
can keep active.
We have P.E. on Tuesday and Thursday. Proper shoes are required. If you are
working these shifts, please go out and help her with the class.
** there are other days we may still go out for P.E..
Daily interaction
with books allows
children time to
explore and LOVE
reading.
Books may also
be brought in
from home.
Please have
your name on
any book you
bring in for
quiet reading.
Students will get a handmade birthday book to take home.
We ask that you do not bring any food or drinks.
You do have the option to donate a book to our class library.
Summer birthdays are celebrated at their half birthday.
Every week your child will have a classroom job. The job will help
facilitate learning and promote responsibility.

Things to Remember when helping out
with classroom materials…
*Paper cutters in classroom, office & MPR workroom
*Electric stapler for packets
*Electric 3-hole punch in class and office
*Use electric pencil sharpener in office for big jobs; please
don’t sharpen pencils while I’m teaching!! You can move
sharpeners outside and close the door.
*Always use “first grade” printing, please!
•Playground Duty is very important.
•Our main priority is the safety of our children.

•Please use the appropriate forms to fill out for
behavior reports. Kuddos and Incident Reports
are in your green pack that you take out to recess
and lunch.
Please walk the children down to the snack
tables. One person should walk in front so the
children do not run ahead.
 For snack, children MUST sit for 5 minutes. If
they finish early or do not have a snack they
must still wait for 5 minutes.
 For lunch, children MUST sit for 10 minutes.
 Once finished, children must put his/her lunch
away in the designated area and throw trash
away.
No sharing food

During snack and lunch time children with nut allergies must sit at the nut
free table. Do not allow children to sit at this table if they have any food
with nuts or nut traces in it. Please review this at home with your child. Let
me know immediately if your child has a nut or other allergy.


In class, I use the clip system to monitor behavior.
Each child always starts the day on “Ready to
Learn”.
A clip is moved down when a poor choice is made.
A clip may be moved back up if the child shows to be
improving his/her behavior.
A child may move up if he/she is showing
outstanding citizenship.
We are working on the golden rule of treating others
the way we want to be treated and to be a buddy not
a bully.

Never take your child
without properly
checking him/her out!


Attendance is imperative!
Plan your vacations around school holidays.
…..Please keep your child at home if he/she is
sick. FEVER FREE 24 HOURS! Your child WILL
get sent home if this is not followedDO NOT WORK A SHIFT WHEN YOU ARE
SICK, PLEASE!!
