ABL90 FLEX CVOR-SURG operator training checklist

ABL90 FLEX
Inservice/training checklist (Surgery/CVOR)
1. Overview
Identify components and operational aspects of the
analyzer
Analyzer components
o Screen and traffic light monitoring system
o Built-in barcode scanner
o Paper
o Inlet
o Integrated video tutorials
o Sensor cassette
o Solution pack
o Power on/off (no hard shut downs)
2. Sampling
Log-on / Log-off (auto log off is 2 mintues)
o Review Extended Logon/Logon BC buttons
How to measure a patient sample using syringe
o Lift handle to the syringe position (middle light
illuminates)
o Choose test: Full Panel (Default)
 Or Blood Gas, H&H, Lytes, iCa++
 Full Panel includes above and Glu
o Scan Patient ID use HAR/Supply charge label
o Push syringe onto inlet gasket (spring loaded)
 The probe extends into the syringe and the
blood is automatically aspirated.
o Remove syringe and lower handle (do not allow
handle to drop down)
Pre-analytical error reduction
o Correct PID
o Sample Integrity
Room Air contamination
Air bubbles
Mixing / heparin
Hemolysis
Must use a Radiometer syringe
o Sample volume Minimum 1 mL
Cannot use a dry syringe
3. Results
Will Print
o If they didn’t print then you didn’t enter the
required information. Enter info
o Interface-- result will go to HIS if network cord if
plugged into a live network jack.
Training barcode for patient ID:
4. QC / quality management system
What to review
o QC lockout
 If parameter yellow/red no patients results reported
o Traffic light colors
o Screen
o Printout
Performing manual controls (external) will be reviewed
during annual competencies. What’s different?
o Must use an adaptor
o Must enter temperature
5. Routine replacements (call Lab)
Routinely view traffic light status or system information
to verify
o Patient tests remaining
o Expiration dates for sensor cassette and solution
pack
o If yellow light is because of a consumable call lab
Replace as needed
o Printer paper
Lab will monitor via Radiance just like the ABL80
6. Troubleshooting
What to look for on the screen/printouts
including: Traffic light, messages, any “error” or
“?” messages and “arrows”
o See below messages for more information
o Results with ?’s are invalid.
If instrument says “Manual Back Flush” call lab
o Means there is a clot in the system that couldn’t be
cleared
Automatic corrective and system checks are done by the
instrument to try fix itself. If it can’t fix itself call lab.
Marking
"?"
Explanation
Error in the last quality control measurement or
calibration, or because of sample problems
 Parameter value is outside the reportable
range.
