Program Foundations Belonging A sense of belonging will be established through building relationships with professional Educators who are engaged and passionate about child development. Educators will greet children and families daily ready to listen, support, and work together to meet the needs of each child. Engagement Ready, Set, Go! will ensure your child is engaged by providing new, and exciting, activities requiring problem solving and creative thinking. Family involvement in sharing interests, experiences and preferences will contribute greatly to your child’s enthusiastic involvement in program. Expression Communication and expression will be explored by encouraging conversation among children and having children contribute to programming, schedules and routines. Self-regulation and problem solving will have a strong awareness in the program and interactions. Open-ended materials promote creativity and choice. Children will be encouraged to explore a variety of ways to express their needs and emotions. Well-Being Well-being will be fostered through extended periods of uninterrupted outdoor play, healthy snack options, and by educators providing coaching to children in self-care areas such as hand washing, toileting, dressing for outdoor play, and familiarizing with backpack and lunchbox routines. Strong competence in social, cognitive and communication skills strengthen children’s capacity to learn in the short and long term. Connections to caregivers give children confidence in their environments and security to play, learn, and explore. Program Expectations Program expectations will be supported through a play-based learning environment in a school setting. Open-ended and explorative settings will enhance child focused planned and spontaneous activities to encourage optimal learning and skill development unique to each child’s interest. • • • • • • Personal and Social Development Science and Technology Mathematics Language The Arts Health and Physical Activity Supporting Documents • Early Learning for Every Child Today http://www.children.gov.on.ca/htdocs/ English/topics/earlychildhood/early_learning_for_every_child_today.aspx • Think, Feel, Act: Lessons From Research About Young Children http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/childcare/research.html • How Does Learning Happen?
