"Molecular Plant Science" MoPS
Application time: 15st of February until 31th of March
You have to submit the following documents to applicate for a place in this master program:
1) Application form. You have to fill in the form online via STiNE. Print it out and send it
together with the other required documents (see below) to the application address
announced at the bottom of this side. Please do not forget to sign the application form!
This is an English master program You must have certain English language skills (see
below).
1. The online-application is open beginning the 1st of June until 15th of July www.stine.unihamburg.de .
2a) Applicants who have finished their graduate degree before March 15th have to send
the following documents (in German or in English translated by a licensed translator) in
addition to their application form:
1. Certificate of the bachelor degree.
2. In the case that modules, courses and examinations are not listed in the certificate you have
to add a “transcript of records“ .
3. Language certificate (CEFR/TELC, IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge) (see below).
4. certificate of additional qualification relating to the master program
2b) Applicants who are in the final stage of their bachelor without a certificate of the
bachelor degree, have to send the following documents (in German or in English
translated by a licensed translator) in addition to their application form:
1. An official “transcript of records“ in which modules, courses and examinations are listed and
a preliminary overall grade has be given.
2. Applications can only be considered if you can prove that only ECTS of your last semester
are missing in your bachelor program
3. Language certificate (CEFR/TELC, IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge) (see below).
4. certificate of additional qualification relating to the master program

Further Information:
1) special conditions for admission
1. A bachelor’ degree either in
biology or molecular life science from the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and
Natural Sciences at Universität Hamburg.
2. Any other bachelor’s degree, provided that at least 74 ECTS credits of foundational
coursework in the natural sciences have been proven to have been completed in the following
disciplines:
Mathematics (incl. physics and bioinformatics, if available)
Chemistry (general; inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemistry)
Biology
6 ECTS

60 ECTS
Within these foundation courses, 30 ECTS credits must attest to knowledge of laboratory
practice and skills in chemistry and biology acquired in laboratory internships. Any credits
lacking in mathematics and chemistry can be compensated by corresponding credits
achieved in molecular biology. These credits shall be accumulated in addition to the 60
ECTS credits in biology. Furthermore, the bachelor thesis must be an experimental
project. This information must be evident from the documentation submitted. Where
necessary, applicants may submit a separate letter detailing this information.
3. Applicants must have adequate English language skills. Adequate language
proficiency may be demonstrated as follows:
a) CEFR/TELC
B2 (English instruction at a state school in Germany for seven years is
equivalent)
b) IELTS
5.0
c) TOEFL
(IBT 80, PBT 500, CBT 170)
d) Cambridge
FCE, CAE, or CPE
e) Degree from an English language bachelor degree program
2) Selection Criteria
If the number of applications exceed the number of available space in the master's degree
program in molecular plant science, then student selection shall be made as follows:
a) Results of the first higher education degree
b) Participation in a university exchange program (e.g., Erasmus, DAAD)
c) Internships (at least 4 weeks) with a clear connection to the content of the master's degree
program in molecular plant science
d) At least 2 months' experience in a foreign country
Each of the activities completed in b) through d) will improve the grade of the first degree by
0.1. Ranking shall be calculated based on the final grade resulting from the addition of the
aforementioned points.
