Backgrounder Radio Console System 9500 - a flexible control centre solution The latest Radio Console System, the RCS 9500 of Airbus Defence and Space, is a fully IPbased communication solution for control centres used for dispatching and command and control of field units. RCS 9500 provides public safety control centres easy and quick access to Tetra communication features while offering smooth migration from analogue PMR to digital Tetra, benefits of a full-IP solution and versatile interface for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Call Taking systems. When specifying a new radio dispatch console, one of the most critical aspects to consider is aligning the technology with your established operational processes. In other words, the user interface should be adapted to its users, not the other way around. And that’s exactly the thinking behind the RCS 9500. It is a pure Voice over IP radio dispatch console that offers an infinite amount of layout customisation for each user organisation without any software development. Offering free seating in networked control rooms with role based authentication, RCS9500 is well suited for centralized and distributed operational models, enabling dispatchers to manage mobile workforce of one or multiple user organizations. The system supports any organisation’s standard operating procedures by allowing complete customization of its highly intuitive graphical user interface. Customisation is easily accomplished using the RCS 9500’s simple drag and drop editing tools. The ability to customise the dispatcher as needed without software modifications can create savings of up to 40% of the total life time costs compared to a typical dispatch system. User Interfaces created for various user organisations can be pushed to each RCS 9500 radio dispatch console from central server without site visit, making the evolution of user organisations’ operational procedures easy and smooth. During a dispatching roll-out project, sample user interface templates (lay-outs) can be created and tested in action, allowing the user interface to then be tailored to its final form. The user interface can be set up to look very much like an existing, legacy User Interface (UI), allowing users to adapt to the updated solution with the minimum of effort. It can also be developed later to keep up with the natural workflow and changes to procedures. Seamless Tetra integration is often the most difficult part of any control room project. RCS 9500 offers a risk-free integration in these projects as it is designed, tested and releasesynchronised with Tetra systems from Airbus Defence and Space. This also ensures that new Tetra communication features are instantly available at multiple control centres in your network. Backgrounder Other control room systems like Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) or Mapping/GIS applications can enjoy the same easy and future-proof Tetra integration by utilising the RCS 9500 interface specifically designed for third party applications. There is also an Analogue Radio Gateway of RCS 9500 that supports the migration phase from analogue radio to digital TETRA and enables a unified speech link between the two systems. RCS9500 is available in three versions: Fully featured dispatch position for main control rooms Mobile, laptop-based dispatch position with selectable features Wirelessly connected dispatch position for vehicles and small stations. All versions share the same centralised management infrastructure, which enables quick rollout of operational changes and brings savings in operational costs. For example, creating and deploying a new user interface layout to handle an emergency that may require joint response from several agencies can be done with a few mouse clicks. RCS 9500 supports colocation of 3rd party applications in one workstation. This reduces the number of workstations per dispatching seat and is a major source for Operating expenses saving as well as simplifies the implementation.
