REGISTRATION FAQ`s WHERE AND WHEN ARE THE GAMES

REGISTRATION FAQ’s
WHERE AND WHEN ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?
The Under 8’s to the U10’s play on Saturday mainly in the morning unless there are insufficient
pitches available in which case there may be an afternoon game.
Games are played in the local parks such as Heffron or Rowland parks. Other parks that may
be used include Coral Sea, Nagle, Snape or Booralee.
The U11’s to the U16’s play on Sunday either in the morning or afternoon due to the clash with
the Private Schools’ Saturday sport. These are mainly in the local area unless there are teams
from Balmain or Concord in which case you will have the occasional game away.
Wherever possible the U14’s and U16’s play on turf and this may include Petersham Oval,
Coogee Oval, Snape Park and Kensington Oval.
WHAT DO THE FEES COVER?
The fees cover a playing shirt and cap, insurance, team registration fee with the local
Association, end-of-season trophies and a team kit. Depending on what age you are playing in
the team kit may also include helmets, pads, gloves and bats. You do not need to bring your
own equipment such as a bat. You will need to wear white shorts or long pants and joggers and
from the U10’s upwards you own protector.
HOW LONG DOES THE SEASON GO FOR?
The season starts in the second weekend in September and goes through to the middle of
March. There are no games on the October long weekend and there is another break over
Christmas with no games scheduled from around the middle of December to the end of
January.
HOW LONG ARE THE GAMES?
The games vary depending on the age group and range from 2 hours in the U8’s to 3.5 hours in
the U16’s. The U8’s and U9’s play a modified game where everyone bats for 4 overs
regardless of getting out. In the older age groups it is traditional cricket and you are out when
given out. This means that the games may not run for the full time if for example the side
batting first is bowled out very quickly.
WHAT COACHING IS GIVEN?
Sydney Coastal is the only club with a club coach, Ron Crippin, who is a former great batsman
for NSW. All coaching is under his control and the Club supplements his efforts with former
players as assistants. Emphasis is on technique from where skill and confidence will derive
from. The club puts enjoyment and skill development ahead of winning for the sake of winner
and table position. We believe these are the reasons why we are the only junior club in the
Association who have produced Test players and we have produced two.
IS THERE TRAINING?
Yes, all teams train once a week for a minimum of 1 hour depending on the age group. Once in
a team we ask the parents to select a day and time that best fits although it may not suit
everyone. The Club will help in choosing a day and time.
WHO IS OUR COACH OR MANAGER?
While the Club Coach and Committee members will be present at most games it is a legal
requirement that each team has a person who is the responsible for the team and its safety.
This person or persons is chosen from the parents in the side and is then responsible for match
day and training (with assistance from the Club).
WHAT DOES ‘TRUST, RESPECT, HUMILITY’ MEAN?
It defines our culture and who we are and how we approach the game. Players are to trust the
Club and their coaches and that trust is repaid to the players. Players, officials and parents are
to respect their team mates and the opposition at all times for without them there is no game.
We are to be humble at all times and never gloat at our successes for they are fleeting, we learn
more about ourselves in loses than in victories.
