International service learning summer schools on renewable energies (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) SEER4ALL Lecture Thursday, 20.04.17, 6-8pm Room BH-N 333, Ernst-Reuter Platz 1 Greening Africa Together Presentations of the first summer schools in Senegal March 4-18 and in the RDCongo 25 March to 8 April 2017 Greening Africa Together is a joint project of the TU Berlin (MSc Regenerative Energiesysteme (Renewables) and ZEWK/Kubus (Cooperation and Consulting for Environmental Questions)), universities in Senegal, Guinea, DRCongo, Benin and Turkey and business partners aiming at introducing international service learning modules on renewable energies (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) which takes place from 2016 to 2019. The modules with the included summer schools become part of the regular curricula of the Master programs in RE and EE and credits will be awarded. The summer schools are prepared and undertaken in collaboration with local NGOs and village associations, to ensure that the projects address the needs of the communities. The implementation and reflection of the learning experiences (both by the stakeholders and the students) is ensured by the preparation and evaluation workshops. The first international summer school in Senegal took place from 4th to 18th March 2017 in the rural village of Khouram in the Casamance, in Senegal’s South, and in the Democratic Republic of Kongo from 25th March to 8th April in the village of Kikoti. The participating students of TU Berlin will present and discuss their experiences and project results in the SEER4ALL Lesson. • • • • • Photovoltaic: lighting of the school and the maternity and charging stations for mobile phones and electronic devices Biogas: Repair and reset of a biodigester for cooking and building of a second digester Briquets: Fabrication of Fuel Briquets with agro-residuals for cooking Income generation through RE: Data acquision through questionaire based interviews water quality analysis to consult the population on the quality of the different wells Being a founding member of the HEIs association "Hochschulnetzwerk Bildung durch Verantwortung", the TU Berlin aims at linking its academic excellence in RE and EE to its mission for a sustainable development. The cooperation between the MSc Regenerative Energiesysteme (Renewables) and ZEWK/Kubus (Cooperation and Consulting for Environmental Questions) guarantees the quality of the academic and pedagogic support by linking universities, business partners and society on social-ecologic issues.
