INTERCOM - SERVICE INTERCOM Peltor Service Intercom – By far the simplest way of hooking up to a temporary Intercom system. 1 INTERCOM - SERVICE INTERCOM The best value-for-money portable intercom on the market featuring full duplex for noisy environments – Peltor Service Intercom. Easy to install – and user-friendly too The Peltor Service Intercom is an advanced yet easy-to-use mobile intercom system. Many years of experience in the aviation sector, defence operations and heavy industry have given us invaluable knowhow about communication in noisy conditions and honed our skills and expertise in noise reduction and advanced electronics. At the same time, working closely with end-users has made us highly aware of the importance of simplicity and operational reliability. The result is the most reliable and user-friendly service intercom on the market. accordingly chosen to work with the simplest possible connection system, a perfectly standard 2-strand cable. No fixed power source is needed for this, since each headset is equipped with its own power supply. What this means is that in certain conditions, it is even possible to utilise an already-existing wiring network to set up the intercom system. Electronics and power source integrated in the headset – no power needed in the network. Damp-proof junction box for permanent installation Simple, cheap installation – with a standard twin cable The prime use for service intercoms is for temporary communications systems, for example when loading ships, service in underground tunnels etc. Peltor have provided over a distance of several kilometres. The junction box is built to withstand rain and other moistureexposed conditions. For use of the Peltor Service Intercom in more permanent environments, each working station is equipped with a junction box to which one or more headsets can be connected. The junction box does not require any power source of its own. Owing to the design of the system, communications can be 2 The Peltor Service Intercom relies on simple wiring. The communications unit is integrated into each headset, and each headset is powered by a 9 V battery which provides about 50 hours of operation. With this setup, no separate power supply is needed. Duplex and VOX In order to guarantee the user maximum benefit from the Peltor Service INTERCOM - SERVICE INTERCOM Intercom system, Peltor have developed a full duplex communication system with adjustable voice-activated VOX. With this design, the microphone in the headset is switched off when the user is not speaking, but is activated instantaneously when the user begins talking. This advanced technology saves battery power and it also allows the user to concentrate fully on the job at hand, since no unnecessary noise penetrates via the intercom system. The VOX function is adjustable to 4 sensitivity settings, which can be selected to suit the profile of the background interference. Each stage increases noise tolerance by about 6 dB. In addition, there is a separate position for use together with the speech button. High capacity – up to 25 users The Peltor Service Intercom offers high capacity. Up to 25 users can link up to each system, and a wide range of connection and extension cables guarantees the Peltor Service Intercom maximum flexibility and expansion potential. Perfect for temporary work-sites With Peltor’s method of using a standard 2-strand cable without a fixed current source, the result is an Intercom with an extremely wide operational e ea. Users are no longer restricted to a fixed area – instead, the system is designed primarily for temporary work-sites such as servicing tunnels, sports events etc. Extremely high quality With customers in the aviation and defence industries, there simply is no room for compromising on quality. That approach lies behind the design of the components used in the Peltor Service Intercom. The headset equipment, for example, is based on Peltor’s renowned H7 hearing protector, which features an optimum combination of noise attenuation and comfort. Bands made of special spring steel in combination with foam/fluid-filled cups offer perfect fit and comfort, even in long-term use. The electronics we use conform to the same stringent standards applied for NATO communications equipment. Even the battery housing is designed to ensure maximum operational reliability. Noise-compensated microphone 100 dB 90 80 70 60 50 40 30 20 125 250 500 1000 2000 4000 8000 Hz A microphone used in noisy environments has the task of reproducing speech with high quality while at the same time dampening ambient noise to the greatest possible extent. Peltor have solved this problem with the help of a microphone which offers the best noise suppression across the entire speech frequency range, up to 25 dB. Furthermore, the microphone is equipped with a special filter which eliminates histõng and breathing sounds. This approach offers the best speech reproduction, even at noise levels above 115 dB. In order to enjoy the full benefit of noise compensation, the microphone must be positioned close to the mouth, about 3–5 mm from the lips. 3 Frequency-compensated sound reproduction for best sound quality dB 100 80 60 40 20 125 500 2000 8000 16000Hz In order to shut out harmful noise and yet at the same time provide good sound reproduction in speech, it is vital that each and every component is well-thought-out and integrated with the others. Peltor have developed a sound reproduction system which offers the very best speech reproduction in noisy conditions. The secret lies in the fact that sound reproduction in the hearing prqÿector cups is frequencycompensated on the basis of the hearing protector’s attenuation ability. As a result, the wearer perceives incoming speech as “normal”, and does not have to suffer the masking effect of residual sound inside the cup. Furthermore, we have selected components and a production technique which minimises distortion. The result is unsurpassed speech clarity in noisy conditions. In order to further ensure that incoming speech can be heard distinctly, the loudspeakers are linked in parallel. So if there is break in one loudspeaker, the other will continue functioning. Support clamp Safety is further enhanced through the provision of a support clamp for the cable leading to the Peltor headset. It helps keep the cable out of the way, and it also acts as an additional security clamp to keep the wearer’s headset firmly in place so that it INTERCOM - SERVICE INTERCOM Examples of application areas for the Peltor Service Intercom.
