Organisational Case Study Radiology Transformation North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is a medium sized acute Trust which delivers radiology services across two acute sites and several community hospitals in the North of England. The hospital is in the process of improving its trauma services. In order to do this effectively, the Trust needs to provide a 24 hour onsite CT service at one of its acute sites. WRaPT was tasked with establishing: 1. The level of increase in WTE of radiographers required to operate 24/7 CT scanning 2. An understanding of how the increases in demand for CT, Ultrasound and MRI scans have impacted the radiology workforce ESR workforce data for the radiology department was easily uploaded into WRaPT. Defining the Data After discussions with relevant stakeholders, the team was able to input data describing the departments’ activity and drivers. The data was then reviewed to ensure the model was able to accurately reflect the clinical work performed by the department. Modelling the Data • The WRaPT team worked with the Head of Radiology to model changes and the outcomes were as follows: • WRaPT accurately replicated the modelled increase in WTE in radiology and triangulated in a ¼ of the time • WRaPT forecasted workforce investment and savings required if clinical activity increased in line with expectations WRaPT provided evidence for a funding application through quantifying previously unseen efficiency savings through calculating the increased clinical activity delivered by the existing resource during the last two years The WRaPT team is available to support your organisation with workforce transformation using the WRaPT Tool.
