Scope This presentation covers random things that I’ve learned or found out that my library didn’t know in the last two years. There are three keyboard shortcuts for this checkin message – 1. Spacebar means yes; 2. Y means yes; 3. N means no. Macros Located in AdminSettings Macros – Example 1 Look at menus – underlines tell you what letter to use with an ALT key, they can be stacked Check this out Macros – Example 2 Queue a spine label into queue 1 and reset for the next record search %CTRL+SHIFT+1% is the command to queue the spine label into queue 1 %ALT+f%c% is the command to close the record %Tab% moves the curser from the index selection field to the barcode search box To use in the function Search/Holds or Catalog: scan the first barcode; press F7; scan the next barcode, press F7, repeat! Searching by record number If you know an item/bib/patron record number, choose the “.” index and remember to add an “a” at the end to take the place of the check digit. Uh-oh, I clicked delete… If you accidently deleted a hold that has been in the system more than a day and you remember either the title or the patron name, you can look up the hold information in the “View Outstanding Holds” function! Encore Tip 1 Highlighting of the search term went away after the last upgrade – to turn it back on navigate to your Encore Admin webpage – click Encore Customization Choose Color and change it to something you like Encore Tip 1 Encore – Tip 2 After you have made changes to Encore, especially to JavaScript refresh your installation: http://<ENCORE URL>/iii/encore/refreshSuite Webpac/Encore Have PINs and want staff to be able to help patrons place holds without having to ask for the PIN? Use the service commitment for “Patron Requests by Staff” Change your staff URL for the catalog by adding :2084 to the end Field Fun #1 Some item record fields you may have to ask the help desk to add: Last Checkout Date Inventory Date Your labels will most certainly be different Field Fun #2 By default, not every field may be Rapid Updateable. Ask the help desk to allow fields. Cataloging #2 Headings Reports Blind References Cataloging #2 A.K.A – don’t believe everything this report tells you! These way down here at the bottom, probably true. Headings that aren’t subdivided probably NOT true. Cataloging #2 If you are feeling confident in your file or you want to look at your files, move them to a review file. You can then open the individual records or just process the file thru delete records. Cataloging #3 – Modify Group Cataloging #3 – Modify Group Cataloging #3 – Modify Group Substitution phrase Temporary or Permanent Save typing Substitution phrase Substitution phrase Substitution phrase Enter %0 space and navigate to another field. The substitution phrase will fill itself in MARC format validity tables A.K.A – make the red go away! In Admin Corner or your Telnet/SSH client Navigate the path AASOD Choose 01 Chose MARC 21 Bib format MARC format validity ^F means CTRL-F – do this first to see the entire menu. Everything here has to be done with the choices provided, don’t rely on backspace, page up, etc. ^End means stop and save not scroll to the end Add in your local fields or have Innovative update this table. Remember, if you have Innovative do it, you will lose your custom edits so best to keep track of those edits so you can recreate them!
