2017 CADDAC Conference Speaker Bios
Thomas E. Brown, Ph.D.
Dr. Brown is a clinical psychologist who received his Ph.D. from Yale University and is Director
of the Brown Clinics for Attention & Related Disorders in Hamden, CT and in Manhattan Beach,
California. He specializes in assessment and treatment of high-IQ children, adolescents and
adults with ADD/ADHD and related problems. After serving on the clinical faculty of the Yale
Medical School for 20 years, Dr. Brown has resigned to accept an appointment as Adjunct
Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of
Medicine of the University of Southern California. His most recent book in Outside the Box:

Don Duncan, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Duncan is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Kelowna, BC where he serves as Clinical
Director of the BC Interior ADHD Clinic. Dr. Duncan holds an appointment as Assistant Clinical
Professor with the Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia and has been
honoured by appointments to the Board of Examiners for Psychiatry (Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Canada), the Board of Directors for the Canadian Academy of Child
and Adolescent Psychiatry (CACAP), and the Board of Directors for the Canadian ADD/ADHD
Resource Alliance (CADDRA). As a consultant to the Dalai Lama Center for the Advancement of
Heart Mind Education he works to advance the interests of children’s mental wellness.
Dr. Duncan was the first physician certified by Dr. Ross Greene in the delivery of his novel
approach to helping parents deal with problem behaviours through a collaborative,
punishment-free process – Collaborative Problem Solving. (www.livesinthebalance.org)
Dr. Duncan’s interest in ADHD comes from both personal and professional experience with the
disorder. He has been diagnosed with ADHD himself and has children and siblings who have
been diagnosed. He believes much of what he knows about the disorder has been learned by
working with those who experience its significant impact on their lives
Samuel Chang, MD, FRPCP
Dr. Sam Chang is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He received his M.D. and
general psychiatry residency at the University of Calgary. He completed an Adolescent
Chemical Dependency Fellowship at the MAYO Clinic and a Pediatric Psychopharmacology
Fellowship at the University of Toronto. Dr. Chang is a Clinical Associate Professor at the
University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine. He is also an accredited faculty with the Reach
Institute of New York and is the medical lead for the CanReach program to train primary care
physicians. He is the Medical Director of the Adolescent Addictions Program and admits to the
Young Adult Program Adolescent Psychiatry Unit both located at the Foothills Medical Centre in
Calgary. He is also the Provincial Adolescent Psychiatric Consultant for Alberta Youth Addiction
Services. He does numerous clinical trials; and continues to see new consultations in his office.
He is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of CADDRA (Canadian ADHD/ADD Resource
Alliance). Dr. Chang is a past board member of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry and past President of the Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the Alberta
Medical Association. He is especially proud of being made Honorary Medicine Man.
Geraldine Farrelly, MD, FRCPC, DCH, DObst
Geraldine Farrelly MD, FRCP(C), DCH DObst is a developmental behavioural pediatrician and
clinical associate professor at the University of Calgary. She holds a joint appointment in the
departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry. Dr. Farrelly graduated from the Royal College of
Surgeons in Ireland and completed her fellowship in Canada. She is medical director and
consultant at the CanLearn Society (CLC) and Alberta mental health ADHD treatment resistant
Clinic and Calgary. Dr. Farrelly has served as President of the Calgary Medical Society, President
of the Pediatric Society, is a board member of CADDRA and CanReach and on their faculty. She
is on the Advisory Board for CHAAD Calgary chapter and was inducted into the CHAAD Hall of
Fame in 2007. Dr. Farrelly has published on ADHD and related topics in peer reviewed papers in
Canada USA and Europe. She has been an invited speaker on ADHD at national and
international conferences including in the USA, Europe, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
Meadow Schroeder, Ph.D., R. Psych.
Meadow Schroeder is an Assistant Professor in the Werklund School of Education at the
University of Calgary. She teaches coursework in Educational Psychology. Both a researcher
and clinician, she is interested in cognitive reasoning and post-secondary learning and
teaching.
Anne Price, Ph.D., R. Psych.
Anne Price is a registered psychologist. She is Director of Clinical Services at the CanLearn
Society (formerly the Calgary Learning Centre) and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the
Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. She has extensive experience and
expertise in assessment and intervention for learning disabilities and ADHD across the lifespan.
Krista Forand, M.Ed., R. Psych.
Krista Forand holds a Master of Education degree in School and Applied Child Psychology, from
the University of Calgary. Her professional practice focuses on assessment and intervention for
individuals with ADHD and Learning Disabilities. She works in collaboration with a team of
psychologists and physicians at the CanLearn Society in Calgary, Alberta.
Amy Winters, M.Ed., R. Psych.
Amy Winters holds a Master of Education degree in School and Applied Child Psychology, from
the University of Calgary. In her professional work, she enjoys a balance between private
practice, and collaborative assessment and intervention services at the CanLearn Society. Her
practice is focused on assessment and intervention in the areas of learning, attention, cognition
and mental health, for school aged children, adolescents and adults. Amy has a special interest
in processes of self-regulation and supporting individuals and families to understand and
overcome emotional and behavioural challenges.
Jaime Gaber, M.Sc., R. Prov. Psych.
Jaime Gaber is a registered provisional psychologist with the CanLearn Society. She has been
involved with the CanLearn Friends and Teen Talk programs for three years. She previously
worked in elementary and high schools as a school psychologist in Manitoba and the United
Kingdom, as well as in university settings with adults with disabilities.
Larissa Predy, M.A., R. Psych.
Larissa completed her M.A. in School Psychology at the University of British Columbia and is
working toward her Ph.D. in cognitive developmental psychology at the University of Alberta as
of September 2017. She has over 12 years of experience working with clinical populations in
various settings. She has worked at CanLearn Society for the past 2.5 years, specializing in
Learning Disabilities and ADHD with a focus on mental health.
Brent MacDonald, Ph.D., R. Psych.
Brent MacDonald is a registered psychologist and certified teacher with over 20 years’
experience working with individuals with a variety of complex learning differences. He has
taught at the junior and senior high level and was the assistant principal at an independent
school for students with learning disabilities. He is a sessional instructor in the departments of
psychology and education at Mount Royal University. He is also an adjunct assistant professor
with the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary.
Brent holds a B.A. from UPEI, along with a B. Ed. from Saint Mary’s University, a M. A. in School
Psychology from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Ph.D. in Applied Psychology
(Counselling) from the University of Calgary. He has presented at local, national, and
international conferences and is a frequent guest on Global Morning and Global Newshour,
Breakfast Television, and CTV2’s Alberta Primetime. Dr. Macdonald has also served as a director
of the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta – Calgary Chapter and was the Canadian
Representative to the State and Provincial Leadership Committee with the American
Psychological Association. He was also the Alberta Representative to the Public Education
Committee, also with the American Psychological Association, and currently sits on the
Psychologist’s Association of Alberta’s Public Education Committee.
Tanya Keto, B.Ed., M.Ed., R. Prov. Psych.
Tanya Keto is the Manager of Professional Development and Parent Education at Foothills
Academy Society. She is also a Registered Provisional Psychologist with a focus on assessment
and intervention for students with Learning Disabilities and ADHD. Since 2004, Tanya has been
a teacher, a student services specialist, and a guidance counsellor for students with special
needs ranging from Kindergarten through to adulthood. She has an extensive background in
supporting diverse learners, conducting cognitive and academic assessments, and providing
intervention and consultation to support exceptional learners. As a mother of an 8-year-old
with unique learning needs, she is a passionate advocate for students and a collaborative
resource for parents and teacher.
Sue Williams Brawn, PCC, PACG
Sue Williams Brawn is a Calgary based coach specializing in ADHD. In addition to her own
coaching practice, Fresh Start Coaching, she was CanLearn Society’s first ADHD coach and
helped introduce coaching to CanLearn clients. She received her coach training through the
Newfield program at U of C, and the ADD Coach Academy (ADDCA) to become the first
professional, credentialed ADHD coach in the Prairie Provinces. Sue is a designated academic
strategist for the University of Calgary and sits on the board of the Calgary Chapter of the
International Coach Federation.
Laura Godfrey, AAC
Laura Godfrey is a certified ADHD and Life Coach working from the CanLearn Society. For the
past ten years, she has also coordinated the operations of LearningLinks library at CanLearn.
Laura also enjoys learning about the digital side of the world of knowledge, which comes in very
handy when working with clients and assistive technology. Laura is a graduate from the ADD
Coach Academy and the SAIT Library and Information Technology program.
Heidi Bernhardt, RN
Heidi Bernhardt is a psychiatric nurse by training, mother of three young men with ADHD, and
the founder, President and Executive Director of the Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada
(CADDAC), a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to awareness, education, and
advocacy for ADHD. Heidi also served as the Executive Director of the Canadian ADHD Resource
Alliance (CADDRA), a national not-for-profit organization of the leading clinicians and
researchers in ADHD in Canada for 6 years. Over the past 24 years, Heidi Bernhardt has helped
raise awareness and understanding of ADHD among parents, educators, health care
professionals, industry leaders, and government officials through presentations, conferences,
media interviews, and advocacy work.
