Vision Training

Save your Sight
Edward C. Kondrot, MD
Have you been told nothing can be done to improve your vision or that you need
to give up your driver’s license? I want to explain why this is usually not true.
I’m a board-certified ophthalmologist who practices traditional ophthalmology
and surgery for 20 years. When homeopathy cured me of severe asthma, I began
adding alternative treatments to my practice with much more success and
satisfaction. There are several major concepts that are vital to your understanding
of how to help your vision. Some of them are lifestyle and some require
professional guidance. I encourage you to begin some of them today.
Diet. Seventy percent of your diet should be organic, raw food. Modern farming
methods use petrochemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides. Organic food has five to
ten times more nutritional value.
Eating raw foods is one of the best ways to become more alkaline. An acidic state
cans contribute to disease. Avoid genetically modified organisms and highfructose corn syrup; it leads to obesity and diabetes.
I believe fish oils can contribute to your blindness because they contain longer
chain fatty acids, and are not absorbed by the cells as readily as plant-based
omegas. Fish oils also become rancid at room temperature, and have
accumulated mercury. Shift to plant-based omega oils.
Zinc is responsible for most enzymatic reactions, and it’s essential for good eye
health. Several studies have shown that zinc deficiency leads to macular
degeneration. Eighty percent of the patients I see are deficient in zinc.
Supplement with chelated zinc.
Hydration. Most people are severely dehydrated. Rehydrating can eliminate a lot
of chronic problems. Consume one half of your body weight in ounces of water
daily.
Relax. There are two settings in the autonomic nervous system – sympathetic and
parasympathetic. The sympathetic state is fight or flight where your pupils dilate,
your heart races, you breathe faster. Your body will not heal or even digest well
because it is fighting for its life. Physical exercise is good for reducing stress as are
meditation, prayer, and positive affirmations. When patients reduce stress, this
alone often improves their vision.
Exercise The trampoline is a good way to exercise at home; it can improve
circulation to the eye. Exercise with Oxygen (EWOT) allows you to breathe oxygen
on a trampoline. It has helped many patients with macular degeneration and
glaucoma.
Light There is a rhythm in the body related to light and dark. One study showed
elevated rates of breast cancer, prostate cancer, macular degeneration, heart
disease, and diabetes in areas that have light at night – basically all the urban
areas of the globe. Another study looked at specific wavelengths to see which
were most harmful. It was shown that blue light is very harmful to our eyes at
night. We need blue light during the day, but not at night, ye we’re being
bombarded by blue light at night, especially through compact florescent lights.
Use old-fashioned red spectrum incandescent lights. If you use a computer or
work under florescent lights at night, purchase blue-blocking glasses.
Ultraviolet light is essential to our health, and a lack of it might cause macular
degeneration. We’ve been told to avoid ultraviolet light, but one study showed
that certain retinal cells need low levels of ultraviolet light to regenerate. Many
doctors question the conclusions of the ‘landmark’ study that showed that UV
light causes eye damage. Ultraviolet light is essential, but we need it in
moderation. If you’ve had cataract surgery and your lens has been removed, use
sunglasses.
The Bates Method. Aldous Huxley, a science fiction writer, philosopher, and
visionary had horrible eyesight most of his life. He went to many ophthalmology
clinics, and no one helped him. He finally used some of the therapies of Dr. Bates,
to restore his vision. Two of the elements of the Bates Method can be used by
anyone. The first is palming – where you put the palm of your hands over your
closed eyes while breathing deeply. This meditative technique helps your eyes
relax, and also produces healing energy for our eyes. A second technique is
sunning. When the sun is on the horizon, look at it with your closed eyes and
move your head back and forth and watch the image of the sun going across your
retina.
The following techniques will require you to work with a professional, but I feel it
is important that the general public know they are available.
Vision Training. When people with a macular scar look straight ahead, the scar
tissue or blind spot is in the way. A machine called the Nidek MP-1 retrains your
eye to look at a different point of focus.
Homeopathy is my favorite alternative modality. It respects the wisdom of the
body. Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. If you have a high fever, you
need a remedy that causes a fever in a well person. When I was cured of my
asthma, I took a homeopathic remedy that causes asthma. Traditional medicine
treats with opposites. Homeopathy looks not only at your eye problem, but it also
looks at you, other diseases, physical problems and your mental and emotional
state. The treatment is always individualized which makes it powerful. I suggest
everyone receive homeopathic treatment to help your general health as well as
your eyes.
Microcurrent treatment improves blood flow, stimulates cellular activity, reduces
scar tissue and inflammation, and is neuroprotective. Treatment is customized so
that the current resonates with the condition. It is important to work with a
person professionally trained in this method.
Chelation removes lead and other heavy metals that contribute to eye disease.
The methods are intravenous, rectal, topical, or oral. If IV is not possible, we
recommend a combination of rectal suppositories and oral detox.
Oxidative therapies are a very powerful way to stimulate healing. Ozone
dramatically increases oxygen concentrations and stimulates regeneration and
healing.
I hope you now see that the statement “You’re going to lose your vision, and
nothing can be done about it,” is only a beginning.
