PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION (page 1): This property is located in the village of Hamorton, in the northeast part of Kennett Township. The 0.61-acre property is mostly flat and drains to the south; it is lightly wooded. Baltimore Pike, which forms the north property boundary, is slightly elevated in this location. The south and east parts of the property are paved for parking. A historic brick building (a former store and post office) near the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Kennett Pike has several frame additions. The building is a contributing resource in the Hamorton HD. The former Bratton Store building is comprised of six sections. The core is a 2-story, 3-bay Federal style brick section nearest the intersection; it has a 2-story rear addition. The other sections are frame. Key features of the house include its massing, fenestration, and small chimneys. 1. Brick core: the 3-story, 2-bay section facing north onto Baltimore Pike. a. Roof: end-gabled, clad with asphalt shingles. A small brick chimney is located near the east end of the ridge. The eaves and bargeboards are molded, with small returns on the end walls. b. All windows on this section have slightly protruding sills. i. North elevation: three bays. The second floor has windows in the outer bays. The first floor has a centered door with a fluted frame and Greek Revival style bull’s eyes in the upper corners; the door also features door shutters and a 3-light transom. “Ghost” markings on the brick walls indicate the presence of a former hipped roof porch. ii. West elevation: windows on three levels. The attic level has two small 6x6 windows. The second floor has two symmetrically spaced windows. On the first floor, the house features a 6x6 window with louvered shutters, a 6-panel door opening under a 3-light transom, and an enlarged 6x6 window. iii. East elevation: mostly obscured by the end addition; it is partially stuccoed and features a small 6x6 window south of the chimney. c. Foundation: brick 2. Brick addition: the 2-story, 3-bay section extending the core to the south; the section faces west onto Kennett Pike. a.
