The 1.45-acre property has a rectangular shape and faces northeast onto Kennett Pike (Route 52). The property is moderately wooded and drains to the east. A long drive leads southwest from the road to a brick building named Hamorton Hall. Hamorton Hall Hamorton Hall is a multi-sectional building consisting of a 2-story brick core with additions on three sides. The building was undergoing renovation at the time of the survey. Key features of the core include its massing and asymmetrical fenestration. 1. Main Block: the 2-story brick section in the center of the building complex. The section faces northeast toward Kennett Pike. a. Roof: end-gabled, clad with asphalt shingles. The roof features overhanging eaves with sprockets on the end walls and shaped rafter tails on the side walls. A small brick chimney is located near the northwest end of the ridge, and a second small brick chimney is located on the northeast side wall. b. Walls: brick, painted yellow. Fenestration is asymmetrical. Windows are 6x6 double hung sash units, many of which appear to be historic if not original. i. Main (northeast) elevation has four bays, spaced asymmetrically. The second floor has four windows. The first floor has two windows in the outer bays, aligned under second floor windows. 1. In the center of the elevation is a 1-story addition that covers the original entrance. This addition has a nearly flat roof, a molded cornice, frame walls clad with machined shingles, and a centered 6x6 window on each elevation (the south elevation has a paired window). ii. Northwest elevation has windows on two levels overlooking two additions. The attic level has a replacement single-light window centered under the peak of the gable. The second floor has two 6x6 windows. iii. Southwest elevation: centered rectangular attic window, two 6x6 windows on second floor overlooking the addition/porch. c. Foundation: stucco (over stone?) 2. Southeast addition: a shed-roofed addition with an incised porch. Shed roof clad with asphalt shingles, frame walls. The roof of the incised porch is supported by iron posts. The northeast wall surface on the porch has two 6-light windows and a French door. 3. North additions: a 1-story addition on the northwest end wall of the main block. The section has been extended to the northeast. Its gabled roof (with the shed roofed addition) is clad with asphalt shingles. The wall surface is clad with machined shingles. Fenestration is slightly asymmetrical. The northeast wall, facing the drive, has a paired 6x6 window centered on the wall surface. The northwest end has a 4-light attic window and two 6x6 windows on the first floor. Concrete foundation. Its gabled roof is clad with asphalt shingles, and the walls are stuccoed. The northeast elevation extends past the end wall of the north addition, and an overhead garage door faces onto the drive. The northwest end wall has a centered 12-light window.
