I can hardly believe we are into the New Year already

Message from Jenny:
Happy New Year
New Year Resolutions; Staffing; what have we got in store?
Volume 1, Issue 1
January 2014
Massive thanks to all of our
parents for the fantastic support
you have given to us since we
opened in September. It has
been an absolute roller-coaster
(good job I love white knuckle
rides).
I can hardly believe we are into
the New Year already and are
now awaiting Ofsted to descend
upon us to give us our first
rating; scary stuff! With that in
mind, if you haven’t returned
your questionnaires, can you
please do so :)
I am so happy with how all of
our children have settled in and
get stuck in with play every day.
We
follow the Playwork
Principles. This means that we
set up space and play
opportunities for the children ,
but then leave them to direct
their own play. We then observe
them at play and guide them to
extend their learning and , if
they wish, take on new
challenges.
The Playwork Principles are
written in full on our Parents’
Noticeboard or please ask Abbie
or myself what we are up to!
Star of the Week
As part of our positive behavior
policy, we have decided to
introduce a Star of the Week.
We already have a token reward
system for all children but
would really like to highlight
when children try something
out of the ordinary, or perhaps
do something really kind for
another person. They will
receive a certificate and be on
our new Wall of Fame.
We have also recently reached
our first level on the token jar!
Chocolate fondue was a big
success :) Children who were
not there on treat night will
receive their own chocolate
treat!

New Year Resolutions
Many thanks goes out to all of you
who have returned questionnaires so
far. We have already started to act
upon some of your useful suggestions,
so thank you!
Baked apples , they look
seriously scrummy! We thought
it would also be nice to have
Hot Cross buns as an added
option.
The key points that have been raised
so far are: parents knowing what their
children do each day and encouraging
independence.
We have Valentine’s Day ,
Chinese New Year , Pancake Day
and Ash Wednesday between
now and half term. We will be
recognizing each of these
events
through
play
opportunities, food and crafts
so watch this space for more
about how the children get on!
Well, we have, obviously, decided to
create a newsletter, which will be
placed on the website every fortnight.
We will then email everyone a link so
it can be viewed directly. It also gives
you an opportunity to see anything
else we have updated on the website
like promotions or pictures in our
gallery. This way we hope to keep you
more in the loop about our planning
and how the children have developed
their play.
What’s on this term?
Next Saturday is World Religion Day.
We have decided to explore this by
introducing some foods from different
religions and cultures. On Friday the
children will have a go at making their
own kebabs for tea! They will also
have an opportunity to make Jewish
Staffing:
Chloe Lovatt has recently joined
us a permanent member of
Staff. We are so pleased that
she has accepted to take an
apprenticeship in Childcare
through us and begins this in
January.
Abbie has begun her Level 5 in
Childcare Management and will
be fantastic, I’m sure! Ask her
all about it :)
Jenny has started her Level 3 in
Playwork—it’s a long time since
she studied anything apart from
Home and Country Magazine so
please give her your support!
aagghh! Too many years
teaching and now it’s time to
get back to learning new things
:) Exciting stuff.
Food Glorious Food:
Our menus will now be
uploaded termly to the website.
We thought this would help you
in planning evening meals as we
are aware not all children like
everything and you may want to
refuel later in the evening.
Finally:
If there is anything else you
would like to see in our
Newsletter, please let us know!
School Wrap is your club and we
appreciate the support of all of
our parents as much as our
children.
EYFS Update from Abbie :)
For those of you who are not familiar
with the EYFS (Early Years Foundation
Stage) it is the education framework
which guides the learning and
development of all children aged 0-5
years. The EYFS then leads on to the
National Curriculum, providing a
seamless link throughout a child's
educational journey. As an Out Of
School Club, we have a responsibility
to work alongside your child's main
education provider, predominantly
being Long Buckby Infant School. This
means that we liaise
closely with the main providers to
ensure that we are complimenting
what is being offered there, in
terms of activities, learning and
themes or topics. We are lucky to
have built great relationships with
the teaching staff at the Infant
School, in a relatively short space of
time so have already scheduled and
attended meetings to share ideas,
observations and suggested topics,
etc. As a result of these meetings
and continuous observations of the
children
at play, we are able to
implement weekly
activity
planning that is tailored to each
individual’s needs, requirements,
likes, preferences and age/stage
of development. Our planning
forms are always available for you
to view and each week’s planning
is displayed on our Parents’
Notice Board. Should you wish to
view your child’s individual
observation folder or to chat
about the EYFS then please feel
free to email me or pop in to
School Wrap. :)
