class choice parent letter/directions

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Bonneville School District #93 will be using Class Choice again this year to allow students to
schedule classes to meet their needs. While Class Choice won’t resolve all scheduling conflicts,
it does give students an opportunity to review their classes, consider options and then make
schedule decisions based on what is most important to them.
Class Choice will be available starting today for students to use, and stay open until the first
week in August. After that time any changes students need to make to their schedules will need
to be done through the counseling department. There are a few changes to the program this year,
and the following information will help with those. There is also a flow chart provided with this
email for those that want an easy reference guide to the program.

Students will access Class Choice by logging into their PowerSchool account. Once they
are logged into PowerSchool, they need to click on the box with the arrow in the top
right-hand corner of the screen, which will reveal a menu of applications and then select
Class Choice.
Once they’re in Class Choice, students will see their 2017-18 class schedule, as well as
their progress toward successful completion of Bonneville School District’s graduation
requirements.
If students want to change a class, they should hover their cursor over the class to see
what other sections are offered during other periods and/or other trimesters. They also
will see current enrollment numbers for each section. If a class has a zero or a negative
number of openings, students should think carefully about whether they want to drop the
class because they may not be able to get back into that class again.
To make a schedule change, students click on the edit button for that period to see other
open and available classes. Students then select the class they want, which changes their
schedule. Students should save after each change, and make just one change at a
time. (Please Note: If a student isn’t eligible to take a class because they haven’t taken
the necessary pre-requisites, the class won’t appear on that list.)
Again, students should check enrollment numbers for their current classes before they
make any changes because if they drop a class with limited openings, they may not be
able to get back into it.
The availability of classes in Class Choice will change constantly as students add and
drop classes. If a class isn’t available when a student first checks, it may become
available at a later date so students should keep checking Class Choice until it closes the
first week of August.
Some classes may be locked in Class Choice because of a student’s unique situation. If a
student can’t change a class, counselors will be available on a first come first served basis
during registration days.
Even with the flexibility Class Choice provides, students may not be able to build the perfect
schedule. There will always be conflicts. Some classes are only offered at certain times of the
day, some classes are offered at the same time and there’s a limit to the number of students who
can be enrolled in any class, but students now have the ability to consider all those variables and
make scheduling decisions based on what’s most important to them.
