learning objectives 1

learning objectives /educational objectives
Learning objectives are brief statements that describe what students are
expected to learn, to do, to practice or to master by the end of school year, a unit
of a book, a lesson, class period or any other learning activity. They includethe cognitive domain -the affective domain and Psychomotor domain .
- the cognitive domain which is concerned with the information learner should
obtain and the thinking skills needed to handle these pieces of information .
They aim to develop thinking skills.: knowledge, comprehension, application,
analysis, synthesis and evaluation .
-The affective domain :it is concerned with the manners ,attitude ,beliefs and
values feelings, appreciation, enthusiasms, motivations, and attitudes. learners
should acquire while interacting with the syllables of the school curriculum.
Psychomotor Domain Psychomotor 3
The psychomotor domain includes physical movement, coordination, and use of
the motor-skill areas. Development of these skills requires practice and is
measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures
Characteristics of educational objectives.
learning outcomes should be set in a form of action verbs which are under
control in order to be observed, measured, or evaluated by raters
The acronym (SMART) represent the most prominent characteristics of well
developed learning objectives.
To explain,
S – Specific – says exactly what the learner will be able to do &and specify one
specific action or activity at a time( students are expected to: explain,
compare, draw, sammerize………)
M – Measurable – can be observed by the end of the learning session( a
teacher can see or listen the result. Results can be quantified; given a specific
grade or mark.
1
A – Attainable : it is in the range of the available resources such as books ,
pictures ,maps cassettes.
R – Relevant or realistic: It should match the participant needs, abilities and
based on what they have already learnt.
Time framed – They should be achievable in a fixed period of time
.
Example Objectives: in a reading comprehension class
Students will examine (1) the title and the picture(3) to predict the subject of
the text (4) in a minute time.
S
: (specific) examine
M
M. (measureable) teacher can listen to learners' prediction and rate it
A
Attainable: the title and the picture(in the text book).
R
realistic: matches students' needs and abilities directly related to the
goals and implemented in the time assigned.
T
Time able: tme needed is fixed fr each activity. ( one minute/ # minutes)
2
1. Objective: Students will examine the pictures to predict what the text is
about in one minute time.
2. Students are expected to skim the text to get the gist.
3. Students are expected to scan the text to get specific information
