3.3.16LogisticsMeetingNotes - Nebraska Breast Cancer Control

March 3, 2016, 11am-12noon – Logistics/Promotions Work Group Meeting for
Professional Education June 9 Professional Education event – via
teleconference 1-888-820-1398 – PC 7803317
Participants: Natalie Kingson, Mary Jo Gillespie, Elizabeth Hardy, Sharon Leners,
Patty Bauer, Kerri Gilson, Lori Vidlak, Teri Sklar
Discussion points
Originating site: Bryan Health in Lincoln (can hold 75)
Telehealth sites already registered: Methodist and UNMC
-1422 Grant has six health departments in state working with primary care docs in
their areas. While focused on Diabetes and Hypertension, Lori thought relationships
being formed might facilitate interest by these same docs in June 9 presentation.
-Sharon working with Beatrice clinics not affiliated with Bryan Health
-Elizabeth – Working with clinics in South Heartland Region
-Mary Jo said there is a new Nebraska Physicians Cancer Screening Initiative that
involves many Lincoln primary care/gyn physicians and others from additional
communities (Crete and Nebraska city have signed on and others are interested) –
The initiative is a physician-led effort focused on colon & breast cancer. Dr. Creagan
needs to know about this initiative to help frame his June 9 presentation.
-Consensus that we need to involve middle level clinical staff members to champion
the cause – many doctors don’t read emails!! – One or more staff members could
attend event and bring back resources binder to share with all clinic staff.
-Tough to make this event happen in rural areas – is live webinar another option?
Not at this time. Live streaming along with telehealth is difficult to do and getting
continuing education credits is a whole other process – Best solution at this point
may be arranging telehealth sites in local hospitals and videotaping presentation for
editing down later as shorter presentation for doctor meetings and make available
to medical clinics
-Telehealth sites need to have personnel to monitor attendance, host and facilitate–
- Elizabeth sees no problem with that at sites (there is always a hospital contact)
and Sharon thought offering $ for refreshments would be a good idea
-Natalie suggested targeting Crete and Nebraska City for telehealth sites since they
have signed on to the Nebraska Physician Screening Initiative
- Lori said participants at all sites will receive resource binders and free download
of Dr. Creagan’s book
Action Items re: Telehealth Sites
-Lori would like telehealth site list by March 15 (No later than March 21)
-Sharon looking into telehealth sites (PHS and maybe Jefferson, Fillmore and
Beatrice Community Hospitals)
-Elizabeth looking into telehealth sites (SHDHD and possibly a local hospital in
region)
-Lori/Natalie/Teri to discuss which/how to pursue other telehealth site options
- Lori will visit with Jim Henry at Bryan re: videotaping potential
Action Items re: Event Promotion
-Save the Date flyer will become a registration flyer with telehealth sites listed;
Registration should be up and running by March 30
-Use education departments to help post flyers in hospitals and make available
during hospital staff meetings
- Patty will assure Methodist promotes to its large physician’s clinic network
-Add mailing $ to budget (can EWM do mailing from their office to EWM
providers/practice manager/office manager ask Melissa) – how about blast faxes?
-Mary Jo would contact Nebraska Medical Association to help promote when
registration is up
-Lori will contact NCCCP to see about printing registration flyer
-Live promotion potential at NC2 Cancer Summit; Minority Health Conference; Art of
Living with Cancer conference
-Direct emailing and potential for inclusion in newsletters by Partnership and lead
member organizations (ACS, Komen, NC2, NCCP, EWM)
-Methodist professional Ed announcements and website
-Local cancer coalitions across state could help promote.
Hi Lori:
It is so good to hear from you. I will post the flyer and other materials out on our basecamp site
