What is a Tattoo?
A tattoo is a form of body modification, made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis
layer of the skin to change the pigment.
What is Human Anatomy?
In its broadest sense, anatomy is the study of the structure of something, in this case
a human. Human anatomy deals with the way the parts of humans, from molecules to
bones; interact to form a functional whole.
Inspiration for the Tattoo Anatomy
The Tattoo is meant to be based on a theme of an appropriate nature. Adding the designed
to your anatomy drawing shows the full effect impact of the tattoo.
What makes a great Tattoo design?

A theme that is easy to identify
Balance (symmetrical or asymmetrical)
Blending and smooth transitions between values in black and white or colour
Colour choices that enhance the tattoo

The Human Anatomy Preparation
In choosing a portion of the human body one must consider if it is appropriate for a school
assignment. If you are unsure what would be considered appropriate, please consult your
teacher.
The portion of the body you choose must include a joint in the body that will be evident in
the finished drawing.
The final drawing of the Human Anatomy will include the following:
 A large finished drawing that includes consideration to a joint.
The drawing must also include the bone and muscles of the
anatomy chosen. The drawing must be completed in coloured
pencil.
 A layer of mylar that features your finished tattoo design and
placed atop of human anatomy drawing. The tattoo is in
coloured pencil/black and white, and also includes fine liner.
