With the release of chapter two: red, Miller continues her innovative campaign which includes audio and videos
releasing in three chapters every three months throughout 2017 culminating in the fourth and final release - her fulllength sophomore album in November.
The focus song on chapter two: red, “Buy Me Diamonds,” (co-written by Miller, Ido Zmishlany and Steph Jones), “is very
sarcastic,” notes Miller. “I was thinking of this previous relationship, and at that point it was, ‘How dare you try to come
back into my life after how you made me feel about myself? So the sarcasm stemmed from anger. But anger can be very
empowering – I think it can be used to create something amazing.”
Bea’s intention for the year-long project, she says, is to bring fans “along for the journey” as she experiences the stages
of a relationship ending. In describing the idea behind the album Miller says, “The theme of this project is very cohesive
and based on the idea of how colors make you feel. I see colors when I listen to music. I’ve always been very affected by
color. It’s a way to communicate a more complex idea in a simple way that a wide range of people can understand.”
Each collection has a theme tied to a different primary color: chapter one: blue (out now) evoked “the sadness you feel
when there’s somebody in your life who you have to let go of”; chapter two: red, releasing on May 12, represents “the
very important next step. I wrote the songs on red in that period of time where I was ready to pick myself up, brush
myself off and start again”; chapter three: yellow, releasing in August, will continue the journey of self-discovery; and
the as-yet-to be titled full-length album (which features collaborations with a number of notable songwriters and
producers including Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Sir Nolan, Jesse Shatkin and Pop & Oak, to Ilsey and Nick Jonas to
name a few) to be released in November, will consist of the nine previously released songs and include three new tracks
to complete the story arc.
