COMPETITION INFORMATION
1. The Competition
The “Oval Junior Touch” Module is a Junior Competition run Thursday’s from 3.45pm. Entries will be accepted on the
understanding that there must be at least four teams to form a grade.
The Competition will be run under Touch New Zealand rules.
This year we will embrace the social and competitive sectors of the spot. Development grade is a participation grade with
no scores recorded. Competitive grade we will be keeping scores and playing finals at the end of the round, with a trophy
for the winning team.

2. Referees
Each team is expected to referee one half of their game each week. This referee could be the coach or somebody 12
years or older who is keen to learn about this element of the sport.
Schools/teams can request referee development from Grant Milne. Balmacewen Intermediate (and other school students)
have been kind enough to referee some Year 1-6 games. You may be fortunate enough to have one of these referees turn
up on your field.
3. Grades
“Oval Junior Touch” is a six-aside competition. This means six players per team on the field at any one time. Games
can/will be played when a team only turns up with four players.
Year 1-2, & Year 3-4 Touch will be played on half a touch field 50m x 35m. Size 3 ball preferably.
Year 5-6, & Year 7-8 Touch will be played on a full field 70m x 50m. Size 3 or 4 ball.
The Competitive Grades (Trophy to winner) are as follows:
Year 3-4 Boys, 3.45pm (Girls can play in this grade)
Year 3-4 Girls, 3.45pm
Year 5-6 Boys, 4.15pm (Girls can play in this grade)
Year 5-6 Girls, 4.15pm
Year 7-8 Mixed, 4.15pm (Maximum of 3 boys on field at any time, must have 4 girls minimum in team)
Year 7-8 Boys, 5.15pm
Year 7-8 Girls, 5.15pm
The Development Grades (Any ratio of boys:girls, No trophy. Scores not published) are as follows:
Year 1-2, 3.45pm
Year 3-4, 3.45pm
Year 5-6, 4.45pm
Year 7-8, 5.15pm
4. Competition Format
Touchdowns = 1 point.
Games will be 28 minutes – two halves of 13 minutes, two minute half time. A hooter will sound at the start of the match,
half time and full time. Oval is a windy place- hooter may not be audible from your field, please keep an eye on the time.
Teams must bring their own ball ready to play the game
5. Draws
One draw will be completed for the season. It is imperative that teams notify what days they will be unable to play due to
other events they have on. This draw will be sent to the schools and will be on our website, www.otagotouch.co.nz . The
draw will be completed in October 2016 and sent to team contacts.
6. Competition Points
Points will be awarded as per the Touch New Zealand schedule, 3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss, 0 for defaults and
no card handed in. .
*Note: Teams must be wearing their correct team uniform by the first competition game
At the completion of each competitive game the referees card is to be signed by each team representative, and the card
returned to the module organiser.
7. Cancellations
Games will only be cancelled due to ground conditions and extreme bad weather. The Module Organiser will make the
final decision. Player safety is always a consideration.
Cancellations will be broadcast on our website and Radio Network by 1.00pm. Schools will be emailed shortly after 1pm
notifying any cancellation. Cancelled games will not be played.
Touch is an outdoor sport and a little rain is not extreme bad weather. Our role is to provide a competition and in our
experience the kids love being outside for 30 minutes when it is damp.
8. Competition Officials
A committee member will be at each module night to discuss any concerns.
9. Development
Otago Touch has a development officer who is available to help with any matter that will develop the game for players,
coaches, and referees. Grant Milne is an ex Primary School teacher with 12 years experience with touch development.

10. Representative
Otago representative teams compete in three provincial tournaments throughout November and December. Otago teams
are selected from throughout the Otago region.
Otago Metro trials will be held Sunday 30 October 2016, Kensington Oval. Players must report to the administration desk
30 minutes prior to their trial.

Otago Metro trials are an open trial for any player registered to play in term 1 or 4 2016, that would like to potentially
represent Otago. Metro send teams to the Otago Trials Tournament on November 6 2016 in U12-U18 grades. Metro will
play against Taieri Plains, South Otago, North Otago, Central Otago. Best players will be selected for Otago teams to
attend tournaments November 20, December 4, December 17-18. Otago Touch will be asking for some helpers to run the
trials- please feel free to volunteer to assist in selections, coaching, managing of teams.
11. Entry Procedure
The fee is $120.00 per team. Email [email protected] with team name & grade. Otago Touch will send an
invoice to the school, and online registration instructions will be sent to the team manager.
Entries close Thursday September 15, 2016.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Please read the following conditions carefully. By signing the registration form you are agreeing to abide by these
conditions and the competition rules. You may be held personally liable for any breaches of the conditions by your team
members and also for any money owing to Oval Junior Touch.
1. Full entry must be completed and received as stated in the manager's information by appropriate date.
2. The Module organiser reserves the right to accept or refuse entry to any team or team member and to place teams in
appropriate grades at its discretion. The organiser will set playing dates and formats.
3. Teams agree to abide by the Competition Rules and regulations set by the Module Organiser.
4. Teams are responsible for their own uniforms. All players in a team are to wear the same coloured tops.
5. No watches or jewellery to be worn on the playing field.
6. No Y5-8 coaches are allowed on the field during game play- except to referee.
7. Appropriate footwear is to be worn at all times while playing. Touch shoes are preferable, no metal tags.
8. If a team withdraws from the competition a refund will not be given.
9. If a team forfeits a match, the opposing team will receive a win - 3 points regardless.
10. Undisciplined players are not welcome at this Module and will not be tolerated.
11. Match balls must be supplied for the competition games by each team.
12. Each team is to have present an adult to manage the team while they are at the fields.
