CRITERIA

A good standard of literacy

A good standard of general education to GCSE level or
equivalent

Food growing experience

The role will include communication with the general public to
inform and create interest. Therefore evidence of good
Communication skills is essential

Ability to coordinate group work within the walled garden –
communicate with group leaders to make sure all necessary
work is kept on track

Ability to facilitate access to tools and equipment for
participants to use

Assist with the growing plots as appropriate - help to keep the
area weeded, plant and maintain the area. This work will be in
collaboration with the working group

Skills in planning to support mass planting days – including
BIC initiatives

Skills in planning seasonal work/harvest. Provide support and
advice. Make requests for additional resources

Ability to record participation/progress. Photographic journal.
Attendance records. Daily diary of work undertaken/issues

Key Responsibilities of Role

To maintain the walled garden and ensure the growing area is kept to an acceptable
standard agreed with the Real Food Growing Coordinator.

To encourage and support food growing in the walled garden.

Show awareness of the principles of crop rotation.

Identify and respond to plant needs (pests and diseases, watering and feeding).

Communicate directly and build relationships with Growing Groups.

Support all tasks – preparation, planting, attending plants to harvest time.

Update signage as appropriate.

Weekly/daily progress records to be maintained including Photo journal.

Share ‘Real Food Wythenshawe’ ethos with customers.

To contribute to both Real Food and WCHG-wide projects and improvement activities
as and when required.
