So, our run of dry weather finally came to an end.
But I’m delighted that the prospect of rain and wind
didn’t stop many of you from taking the start line.
I was greatly relieved that so many of you liked the
new course. The race had unfortunately outgrown
the Longwick circuit, to say nothing of the problems
with potholes and other road failures.
There’s always a bit of excitement when you get an
entry from a high-profile team, and so I was very
pleased to see that Karla had persuaded a couple of
her MG-Maxifuel team-mates to give the TTT a try.
You can then imagine my delight when I got another
MG-Maxifuel entry including the illustrious name of
Magnus Backstedt – a past winner of Paris-Roubaix,
one of cycling’s ‘Monument’ races.

But on the day, it was Team IG – Sigma Sport, led by
Wouter Sybrandy who managed to avoid the flints
and the potholes to take the top prize. Karla’s squad
took 3 minutes off the best women’s time we’ve seen.
I did hear rumour that Magnus was keen to return
next year, hoping to avoid punctures and challenge
for the win. Let’s hope it happens!
As ever, I’m hugely grateful to all those of you who
took a turn marshalling, pushing, timing, catering etc.

as lots of support and tolerance from my wife and
