Adjusting to preschool can be a challenging experience for any child. You can help
ease your child's transition to Beachside Montessori’s Preschool Program with
everyday fun and age appropriate activities. At this stage in development, learning
should not be a chore. These ideas will help prepare your child to listen, follow
directions, and get along in a group — three important goals of our program. The
following ideas and activities are suggested:
Cognitive Development








Sees and discriminates colors and shapes
Identifies color names and shapes
Sorts by color
Sorts by size
Explores the number of things
Experiences one to one correspondence
Asks questions, "How many?" or "How much?"
Puts objects "on top of" or "under" upon request
Communication Skills











Engages in simple conversation
Responds appropriately to questions
Follows two step directions
Communicates and takes suggestions of parents, teachers, or caregivers
Speaks in short sentences or full sentences
Uses language to convey ideas, thoughts, and to get help
