Part A: you have 30 minutes to complete this section. Question 1 Activity A: Create a folder for your work. Suggested time: 5 minutes Marks available: 4 Create a folder in your hard disk work area. Give the folder a suitable name. You must save all your work into this folder. Activity B: Receive email. Suggested time: 10 minutes Marks available: 8 You have new emails. a. One of your emails says you have won a prize in a lottery. You did not buy a ticket for this lottery. Delete this email. b. The email with the subject Leisure Centre contains some information that you should save. Read the email and follow the instructions. c. Produce screen shots showing: today’s messages in your Inbox your folder with the files it contains. What you need to produce for this activity: A file containing the information supplied in the email, saved in your work folder. A file containing screen shot images, saved in your work folder. 4 Activity C: Find information from the internet. Suggested time: 15 minutes Marks available: 11 In Question 2 you will need to work on some calculations about walking as an exercise. Before you do this, you will need to find some information from the internet. Find a typical value for the speed at which humans walk in kilometres per hour. Copy the information, the search words you use to find it and the addresses of the web pages on which you find the information into a new file. Save the file in your work folder. Make a note of the speed at which humans walk in kilometres per hour. You will need this information in Question 2. What you need to produce for this activity: A file containing the required information, saved in your work folder. 5 Part B: you have 90 minutes (1½ hours) to complete this section. You must not attempt to use email or the internet in this section. Question 2: Develop information about walking and food energy. Suggested time: 30 minutes Marks available: 27 Open the file called food energy.xls The file contains information about walking to burn up food energy, but the data is not complete. Your manager wants you to complete the data and use part of it in your leaflet. You may find the following information useful: Walking time per kilometre (minutes) is minutes in an hour divided by Average human walking speed in kilometres per hour (kph) Distance to walk to burn up food energy (kilometres) is food Energy in Calories divided by Calories burned per kilometre Walking time (minutes) is distance in kilometres multiplied by Walking time per kilometre (minutes) kilometres per hour is often shortened to kph. You need to complete these tasks: Make the titles stand out from the other information. Make sure that all information can be read. A ‘calorie’ is a unit of food energy. Using a label, comment or some other means, add this information to the data in a suitable place. Complete the information on walking and energy. To do this you will need to use the value for the walking speed that you found on the internet Sort the food information in order of food Calories. Create a chart showing how long you need to walk to burn up the food energy for each of the food items listed. Your chart should have titles and data labels. Choose one of the food items in the list. Make a note of how long you have to walk to burn up the food energy for this item. You will need this information for the leaflet you will produce in the next question. What you need to produce for this activity: A file containing the required information and chart, saved in your work folder. 6 Question 3: Create a leaflet about home exercising. Suggested time: 40 minutes Marks available: 35 Your manager wants you to produce a leaflet to tell people about exercising at home. You will need to open and use the file leaflet.doc Your leaflet must: be fit for purpose be on one A4 page use all the text supplied in the file leaflet.doc, suitably formatted display the image in the file with suitable formatting show a suitable part of the text in a table having at least two columns and two rows show one of the food items from your work in Question 2. You must show how long you have to walk to burn up the food energy for this item be easy to read be free of spelling errors. Check the final content of the leaflet for errors. Add a footer to the leaflet containing your name and candidate number. What you need to produce for this activity: The leaflet files you have produced, saved to your work folder. 7 Question 4: Answer written questions. Suggested time: 20 minutes Total marks available: 15 Enter answers to the following five questions. a. What is the name given to the type of email that you were asked to delete in Activity 2? If this email had an attachment explain why the attachment should not be opened. (3 marks) b. When editing a paragraph in your leaflet file you click on a row of buttons in the word processor user interface and it appears as shown here. Explain what these buttons do and the effect on the paragraph that you are editing. (3 marks) c. In Question 3, the leaflet included an image that had been inserted. Explain how you would insert and position an image in a document. Describe what problems you might have when inserting an image in a document with a lot of text. (3 marks) 8 d. When using the internet, you should check that the information you found was accurate. Explain what steps you can take to do this. (3 marks) e. Your manager wants you to set a password on your leaflet file. He suggests that you use the word ‘leaflet’ as the password. Explain why this is not a very good choice and suggest a better one. (3 marks) 9 The assessment is over Print all the files that you have created for Questions 1 to 4. Print out a screenshot showing the files you have saved on your computer. Print out any documents you have created during the assessment. If you have made use of a spreadsheet application, make sure that the printouts display the gridlines with row and column headings. You must also produce a printout showing any formulas that were used. Ask your invigilator for help if you do not know how to do this. Write the following information at the bottom of each printed page: the name of the file your name your candidate number. Only pages that contain this information in full will be marked.
