CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – A mini­van carrying seven special needs residents from a group home
was hit by a car that ran a red light according to police.
The crash happened at the intersection of Union Road and William Street just after 1 p.m.
Saturday.
Cheektowaga Police at the scene tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that a blue sedan struck the mini­
van after running a red light while exiting the parking lot of The Creekside Banquet Facility and
Dave’s Christmas Wonderland.
The Bellevue Fire Company responded to the scene and began treating the patients. Erie
County’s Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART) was later requested by the
fire chief.
Two physicians from the Erie County Medical Center responded to the scene to evaluate the
group home residents. Five of the seven residents were examined at the scene, but were not

transported.

In total, two people were transported to Sisters of Charity Hospital St. Joseph Campus. One
person was transported to Millard Suburban Hospital and one person was transported to South
Buffalo Mercy.
The driver of the blue sedan was issued a summons for running the red light.
