New school website
We are just waiting for our new school
website to go live. As soon as it does we
will send out a text with our website
address.
You will find lots of information on the
website. We have a calendar where all

P1-4 Scots afternoon
On the last afternoon before the
February break the Primary 1-4 class
entertained their visitors with a
wonderful Scots afternoon. We were
treated to poetry recitals, Scot’s songs,
some sign language and some wonderful
Highland dancing. For those of you who
couldn’t make it there are some
photographs in the Gallery section on
the school website.
Mid Argyll Pupil Council
Connor and Sian are representing
Glassary at the Mid Argyll Pupil council
meetings this session. This year the
pupils are working collaboratively to
explore internet safety for their age
group and help to create an internet
safety video to be shared with children
in schools across Mid Argyll.

Mid Argyll Inter-schools quiz
This will be the third year of the Mid
Argyll Primary schools quiz. A team of 4
pupils from the older class will be
chosen to represent Glassary. It’s a
great opportunity to meet some pupils
from other schools, with those reaching
the final at the end of May getting to
compete in Kilmory Council Chambers.
Primary 5-7 Science visit
This term the P5-7 class are working on
an exciting Science topic. They began
by brainstorming lots of science
questions they had and have called the
topic ‘What do Scientists do all day?’
Lots of experiments have been taking
place in class and Mr Bolwell has
arranged a trip to the Ocean Explorer
Centre at the Scottish Association for
Marine Science, Oban.
This trip will take place on Thursday
23rd March. The children will be
transported by mini bus with Mrs Rowe
and by car with Mr Bolwell and parent
volunteer Lesley Boyle. We will leave
school at 9am and should return for
3.30pm. We have asked for a voluntary
Occupational Therapist. This session will
focus on how pupils can best organise
themselves for high school, and how
parents can support independence in
this important next step.
This will be on Thursday 20th April
straight after school in Glassary,
3.30pm. Please return the attached slip
to confirm your attendance.
I-cycle training
After the Easter holidays the P6 and 7
children will take part in cycle
proficiency training (now called i-cycle).
They will do the theory part of the
learning with Mr Bolwell in class and the
practical part in two separate groups on
Wednesday afternoons with Mrs Floyd
and Mrs Rowe. The first two weeks will
be in the playground starting on Wed 19
April. Once we start practising on the
road we will need 2/3 parent helpers
each week on Wednesdays 1-2.15pm
(from Wednesday 3rd May to
Wednesday 7 June) to make this
training possible. The helpers will need
to stand at the side of the road and
watch for cars/ remind the children to

The pupils will need to have a road

part in the training. Please see the
attached parents information leaflet to
allow you to check that their bike is
ready for after the Easter holidays.
Please speak to school staff if your
child does not have a bike, as we may be
able to help. P6/7 permission slip
attached.
Sex Education P6/7
At some point during Primary 6 or 7 the
children have a series of Relationship
and Sex Education lessons as part of
their Health and Wellbeing curriculum.
We are going to start these after the
Easter holidays and would like to invite
parents of pupils in Primary 6 and 7
along to a workshop, to view the
teaching materials that will be used, and
ask any questions about what the
children will cover. Parents have the
School swimming lessons
The P5-7 class have now finished their
block of lessons. The P1-3 block will
start on Tuesday 16 May.
All lessons take place from 9-10am at
Lochgilphead pool. On those days please
take your child directly to the pool,
their class teacher will be there from
8.50am. A bus will return them to school
afterwards.
Health week
We are planning a whole school focus on
health and wellbeing for the week
beginning Monday 24th April and aim to
offer the children lots of different
sports sessions and lessons related to
the various aspects of their health and
wellbeing. If your job involves helping
people with their physical or mental
wellbeing and you would be willing to

Healthy eating in school
We try to encourage the children to bring healthy snacks for playtimes and this is one
of the reasons that we stopped having birthday cakes brought into school last year.
Now that we have over thirty children in school it was becoming an almost weekly
occurrence and difficult to organise.
Parent Council
The next Parent Council meeting is on Wednesday 26 April at 7pm, all welcome.
The Parent Council are organising a sponsored cycle event on Saturday 22nd April. More
information will come from Parent Council nearer the time.
