Understanding Prevention Standards to Master Site Visits 10 a.m. – 1 2 pm
It is important to understand the criteria required to meet the prevention standards in
order to acquire full certification. In addition, this course will equip the preventionist
with all necessary information to attain compliance.

Managing Disruptive Audiences 1 p.m. – 5 pm

Working with groups of high-risk/at-risk children, adolescents and adults is
challenging. Often the behavior of the group or individuals within the group directly
impacts the success we have with meeting our program objectives and obtaining the
desired outcomes. Managing Disruptive Audiences will help you to: 1) Establish
effective ground rules for use in your groups, 2) Understand the different learning
styles and how they affect student learning and behaviors, 3) Identify the
characteristics of an effective trainer, and 4) Learn how to deal with specific problem
behaviors.

Ethics for the Prevention Specialist 1:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m.
*Required for AADAA Prevention Certification
Participants will become familiar with the ICRC Ethical Prevention Guidelines and
other theoretical concepts. This course will also feature a discussion of related case
studies and ethical dilemmas faced by prevention professionals.

Bullies: The Behavior in the Home, School, Workplace and Boardrooms
What constitutes the bully? This course will go over and present the behavior and traits of
the bully. Discussion based on the symptomology of the bully will be part of the course
such as: passive-aggressive behavior, intimidation, splitting, triangulating, and more. It
will cover the results of bullying by discussing the traits developed by the bully and what
motivates the behavior by looking at the perceived power of the bully by the victim(s).

Cultural Diversity: Exploration of the diverse populations substance abuse professionals
deal with in their daily practice. Participants will be familiarized with culturally correct
manners to address issues raised in community settings. Presented by: Jose Olivero, MS,

Alternative Methods in Prevention, Presented by Durell Richardson, MS., APS, ADC Nancy Steed APS: This will
be an interactive class that will show some fun and informative ways to present Alcohol and drug education to your
students. This class will 1) Show you different ways you can use innovative games to teach teambuilding and problem
solving skills. 2) also by using a Drunk Busters Pedal Cart and Drunk Busters impairment Goggles we will demonstrate
some fun real life ways to prevent the dangers of underage drinking and the problems of Drinking and Driving.

Prevention Certification Preparation Class: This class will help the Prevention Professional to understand and pass
the Prevention Certification Test and requirements. Presenter: Mike Mclemore, MS, CPM, ICPS, ADC, CCS

HIV/AIDS Prevention– This is an innovative and educational course designed for the Prevention Specialist. This course

Trianglulation Patterns- an Examination of Stressors in Dysfunctional Families:The workshop provides a realistic and
practical description of the disruptive patterns in dysfunctional families. The course identifies and describes the three primary
dysfunctional roles. The workshop also examines the various imbalanced emotional reactions within these family patterns
and the reasons for increased substance abuse problems within these families. Goals: The workshop participant will be able
to: 1) identify the three primary dysfunctional roles, 2) describe at least four primary characteristic of each role 3) identify the
primary emotional reactions of each of the triangle participants. Presenter: Alex Farish, LPC, CPM, ICPS
