Tennis Code of Practice The club affiliates annually to Tennis Leicestershire (and thus the Lawn Tennis Association), and members are required to adhere to its guidelines: http://www.ltaorg.uk/ CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT Comfortable sports clothing to be worn when training and club kit for all matches (purchased by individuals). Correct indoor and outdoor footwear must be worn at all sessions/matches and competitions • Trainers, shoes and black‐soled marking footwear will not be permitted. Members to provide own rackets but some spare ones are kept in the Dan Maskell Tennis Centre cupboards if need be. Rackets may also be hired from the Netball Centre stores. Players should take responsibility over tennis balls provided, by returning them to the allocated storage place. Players should be aware of the close proximity of other court users and also ensure that benches for those spectating are a safe distance away from play. Food and drink permitted to be brought into the tennis centre, but must be stored securely in bags and these must not cause a hazard to others. At the start of the year, the club’s committee attends the AU annual safety lecture and is responsible for making members aware of current procedures (see below). COACHING Skills coaching will be provided by the club to beginner and intermediate players by experienced student members. High level coaching will be provided to full squad members by qualified appointed coaches and/or by qualified student coaches. COURT AWARENESS Players should be aware that accidents may arise from: Players being struck by a racquet. Players being struck by the ball. Players tripping, slipping or colliding. Players wearing unsuitable or damaged footwear. If at any time courts surfaces become slippery, squeegies are available from the LTA courts and if using university outdoor courts, from the EIS reception. In the event of a match, check with Athletic Union President before commencing the fixture. If it is felt to be dangerous, stop play. When using court faciltiies, players should be aware of the possibility of colliding with structural beams around perimeters and also the net posts. When using clay courts, before commencing play, the surface should be checked for foreign objects and that the lines have been secured properly (with nails). If any problems noticed when checking the clay courts, then these should be immediately reported to the LTA/SDC duty manager (if on campus) or if away, the club reception and no play to take place until rectified. On any clay court, courts must be dragged and line swept immediately after use by the finishing players. Tennis involves sudden lunges and stretches, therefore it is important to be fit for your level of game and to warm up thoroughly before starting any session or match. Players should never: Try to play shots outside their own playing area. Go on to other courts to retrieve balls while play is in progress. Look around at a partner whilst serving. Jump over the net when changing ends.
