Adaptive Insights reference guide for new sheets

QuickSheet: Using the New Sheets
Newly-designed sheets are one of the major changes in the 2014.2 release. They have a new look and feel, along with several other new features.
What’s Changed?
You’ll notice many differences between the old sheets and the new ones, but here are the major ones:
• The Formula Bar is now collapsible. To expand or collapse the Formula Bar, click the arrow in the sheets toolbar
.
You can also extend the Formula Bar by clicking and dragging its lower right corner.
• Calculations for a range of selected cells display immediately in the sheet footer. Mouse over the lower right hand box
in the sheet footer to switch between various calculation options.
• All sheets now allow you to edit a parent level directly by select the level identified by the word Only in the level selector, instead of clicking Edit Level.
• The Copy icon has two states:
. Left: copy formula, right: copy value. Copying, cutting, and pasting have
been removed from the right-click context menu, so you can now toggle between the two forms of copying, and use
the following keyboard shortcuts, for Windows (if you are using another platform, use its copy, cut, and paste shortcuts):
• CTRL-C Copy
• CRTL-V Paste
• CTRL-X Cut
For a quick, in-app reminder of the keyboard shortcuts, click the keyboard legend icon
in the lower right corner of the
screen.
• The Notes icon also has two states:
. Left: no notes present (click to add), right: notes present (click to
view or add).
• Adding a dimension value at the time of creating a split row is not supported. However, after a the split row has been
created, the dimension values can be assigned from the dimension column.
• There are now row numbers down the left side of the sheet.
Note: Row numbers are dynamic: when you hide some rows (for example, by using show/hide or suppress
zero rows), the row numbers ignore the hidden rows and all rows are renumbered. Row numbers are not used in
formulas, so their dynamic nature does not pose a problem for cells whose value is calculated from cells in rows
whose number is changing.

QuickSheet: Using the New Sheets
What Else is New?
Other features of the new sheets include:
•
•
•
•
They are Java Applet free, so they load faster and look better on more platforms.
They are supported on tablets, so you can use them on the go.
The new look and feel optimizes data display so more information can be seen without scrolling.
They load quickly regardless of size. New sheets only load the necessary data to your browser, so a sheet
with a thousand rows and a sheet with 100 thousand rows can both load quickly.
• The level selector on standard and model sheets now includes access to the Edit Level Data view just like on
cube sheets.
Icons
Here is a more detailed guide to all the icons used in the new sheet viewer:

Name and Action
Erase All Edits - Erases all unsaved changes on the sheet and returns the values in those cells to the values they had before any edits had been made. Note that this button does not refresh the data on the sheet to
include changes made by other users (see Refresh below). This button is not active if no changes have been
made to any data on the sheet.
Save - Saves all unsaved changes on the sheet to the database. This button is not active if no changes have
been made to any data on the sheet.
Printable View - Generates a printable view of the data on the sheet by exporting a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel format and sending it to the browser. Users can format the spreadsheet and print it.
Refresh - Discards all unsaved changes on the sheet and reloads the sheet from the database. This will
refresh the data seen on the sheet and will display any new changes which may have been made to the values on the sheet by other users.
Copy Value/Copy Formula - Toggles between copying the value of selected cells (top) or copying the formulas (bottom). Set accordingly, then use keyboard shortcuts for copy (Ctrl+C), cut (Ctrl+X), and paste
(Ctrl+V)
Add Split - Standard sheets only. This button adds a new split to the account with the currently-selected cell.
If more than one cell is currently selected, or new splits cannot be added, this button is inactive
Delete Split - Standard sheets only. This button deletes the split with the currently-selected cell. If more than
one cell is currently selected, or the selected cell is not on a split, this button is inactive.
Rename Split - Standard sheets only. This button renamed the split with the currently-selected cell. If more
than one cell is currently selected, or the selected cell is not on a split, this button is inactive.

Name and Action
Add Row - Modeled sheets only. This button adds a new row onto the sheet. If more than one cell is
selected, the same number of rows will be added. If new rows cannot be added, this button is inactive.
Delete Row - Modeled sheets only. This button deletes from the sheet the row with the currently-selected
cell. If more than one cell is currently selected, this button is inactive.
Explore Cell - Launches the Cell Explorer on the selected cell. This button is only active when a single cell is
currently selected, and that cell contains a formula or value which can be explored using Cell Explorer. See
also the Cell Explorer help.
Change Dimensions - Cube sheets only. Opens the Change Dimensions dialog, which specifies which
dimension is going to be placed on each axis of the sheet, as well as which selections are made in each of the
Dimension Selectors. This dialog is a faster way to make changes to many dimension selectors at once, without refreshing the screen for each individual change.
Swap Axes - Cube sheets only, when one dimension is added to the y-axis. A quick way to swap the dimension on top of the sheet with the dimension on the side of the sheet is to click the Swap Axes toolbar button.
Selecting this action will swap the X-axis with the Y-axis but leave the rest of the sheet unchanged.
Restore Default View - Cube sheets only. The Default View is the initial view specified by the sheet
designer, including the selection of which dimensions are on the top and side of the sheet, and which elements are shown on those dimensions. This resets any changes made the user using the Show And Hide Elements button. This restoration of the default view is only temporary, unless the user then saves the sheet,
which will save their current view.
Show and Hide - Standard sheets and cube sheets only (available on modeled sheets when a timespan
element has been added as a column). Launches the Show and Hide dialog which shows all elements of
the dimensions on this sheet which can be hidden.
For standard sheets, this is only the set of Time columns across the top of the sheet.
For cube sheets, it is all dimensions found on the sheet. Hiding an element in this dialog makes it disappear
from the current user's view of the sheet, but it does not affect any other user. Hiding a column or row is not a
permanent change; once the sheet is saved, the show/hide settings are also saved, but they can always be
reset back to the original sheet defaults by using the Restore Default View button (above). For cube sheets,
hiding a column or row from a dimension not only hides it when it is displayed on an axis of the sheet, but also
hides it from displaying in the dimension selectors, unless the dimension is the organization dimension (hiding
a level only affects the axis, and not the dimension selector).
