PUKETE PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 11 March 2016 Dear Parents/Caregivers Senior Swimming Sports Congratulations to all involved for the awesome swimming sports on Tuesday. The children certainly showed the Virtues of determination and courage by swimming “hard out.” Thanks to Fairfield College students and parents that helped. A special big thank you to Pip Herron (Teacher Rm 3) for her superb organisation. Please note that more information and placings are attached. The inter-school event is scheduled for Friday 31 March. The team going will be advised. Congratulations To Our Year 6 Sports Monitors … who received their badges at last week’s assembly. Reminders Easter Tuesday – please make a note that Easter Tuesday 29 March is a holiday for all state schools in New Zealand and sorry we will be closed. Senior School – “3 Way Conference” (Rooms 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 March Please make a point of coming along to hear how your child’s learning is progressing. “3 Way Conferences” aim to involve parent, child, and teacher, in the learning process. Pukete School Gala Saturday 9 April is Coming!! The gala is drawing nearer; we have some awesome people join our gala committee. Fresh faces and ideas are very welcome! We still require helpers on the day 9th April. Just an hour of your time to manage an activity or stall would be most appreciated! The more helpers we get the more time we can all have enjoying the gala with our families! We are still needing prizes for our quick fire raffles. Donations would be greatly appreciated. Please ask the companies, businesses you work for or have good relationships with. We will be asking for donations from each class to bring in grocery items for our Monster Grocery Raffle If everyone donates one thing we spend less and make more money! We will also be doing a Hangi on the day! Anyone who has contacts who could supply us with potatoes, kumara, pumpkin, and meat as a donation please contact Joy at the office, myself or Mel Winter. Thursday 17 March - We have a hot air Balloon Visiting on Thursday “Whiskey and Sunrise” at 12:00pm. Weather permitting they will inflate the balloon on our field. Parents and Whanau welcome. Ruru Team Camp Meeting 5:00pm All parents of children in the Ruru Team are invited to this camp information meeting. Friday 18 March – Interschool Triathlon Year 5 and 6 only. A small team of 12 will be advised. (Please note this event was previously scheduled for Wednesday 16 March.) -Sharing Assembly – Room 4 and 21 sharing. Your perseverance is inspirational to others and this is wonderful to see, as you learn and grow in the senior school. Great work! Keep up the fine effort. Room 4 – Gurkirat – Enthusiasm Having a fantastic attitude towards our thesaurus exploration lesson. I could hear you excitedly finding new words and putting them into sentences. You shared confidently in class and we loved the interesting words you chose, ka pai! Room 5 – Sophie – Determination Being determined to succeed in everything you participate in. Congratulations on your success at our school swimming sports. Ka Pai! Room 6 – Teariki Matthews – Creativity Presenting your work with creativity and neatness. You take care with headings and have developed some clever handwritten fonts. Your personal shield was a good example of this. Room 7 – McKenna – Creativity Using creative and descriptive adjectives in your swimming writing. Well done for starting your sentences in creative ways. Keep it up. Room 11 – Emily – Excellence Doing your absolute best in everything you do. You work hard and are focussed in all tasks. You have made a fantastic start to the year. Ka pai Emily. Room 12 – Jake- Cooperation Always doing as you are asked quickly and willingly. You are very helpful and we love seeing your smile. Room 13 – Max – Self-discipline Trying really hard on the mat by not getting distracted. Well done for being a self-manager and doing the right thing at the right time. Keep it up! Room 14 – Justin – Respect Being a polite and respectful student by speaking kindly to adults and friends. Room 15 – Kaleb – Patience Letting other people have their turn ahead of you, and being calm when waiting for others to be ready. You are a very peaceful, patient student which helps keep the class working well together. This week you have shown us your super ignoring powers and they work fantastically. Well done. Room 16 – Keira-Jayne – Peacefulness Peacefully sketching her dragon and staying focussed until it was complete. Room 17 – Ruby – Excellence Being a settled and focussed learner and giving your best to everything you do. You take responsibility for your own learning and behaviour and treat others with respect and kindness. You are a role model in the class and an absolute pleasure to teach. Room 18 – Gianna – Determination Working hard in the pool this term. You showed great determination to try new things in your group and it is awesome to see your new confidence. You are a Room 18 superstar. Room 19 – Sophie – Respect Being a polite and respectful member of our class. You are listening carefully to instructions, choosing sensible places to sit on the mat, and ignoring distractions around you. What a super star, keep it up! Room 20 – Tyla – Determination Never giving up and always trying your very best. I am so proud of your progress in reading this term. Your determination is really paying off. Ka Pai! Room 21 – Harrison – Responsibility Always being ready to learn every day. You think about what is expected in the classroom and you make sure you are doing it. Ka pai! SPORTS RESULTS Volleyball We have two Yr 5/6 teams in the competition this year. Pukete Blue and White played four back to back games on Monday night with great success. First Pukete Blue played St Joes Smashers and lost 25-17 and 1816. They then played Te Totara Fliers and won 25-15 and 22-6. Alyssa Cowan received Player of the Day for her great serves. Pukete White then won against Te Totara Fliers and their score was 25-12 and 21-14. They then played Te Totara Spikers and won 25-13 and 14-12. Alana Haggar got Player of the Day for her great serves. Come down and watch Pukete play every Monday night this term 4-5pm. Please see the draw on Room Three's window for game times. Kelsey Renshaw, Volleyball Co-ordinator. Touch Touch results from this week; Pukete Lions played Temple View and lost 3 – 5. Player of the Day was Alexis for speed when chasing the other team and great team work.. Pukete Pumas played TK Cowboys and drew 4 all. It was an awesome game on another very hot afternoon. Player of the Day was Henry for great listening and making touches. CLASS AND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHS – 22 MARCH Your child will have brought home a named pre-paid envelope today on which you can order your child’s class and portrait photographs. Completed envelopes with payment need to be returned to school prior to 22 March as if the photographer does not have an envelope your child’s photo will not be taken. For this reason please do not put envelopes inside of one another. If you are paying for more than one students photos please put the money in one envelope and write on the empty envelopes “payment in with (child’s name) in Room ? Many thanks.
