TCH 1-12a Lesson Overview: By encouraging exploration using various games and challenges the learners will gain an appreciation and understanding of their immediate environment. Whilst exploring the learner will have opportunity to identify some of the common plants, trees and animals found in that particular environment. Various fun games and activities will help to reinforce the topic. The journey sticks will encourage the learners to take a closer look at their immediate environment, providing a memory and story of the day’s activities. Nature’s palette will give an insight to the diversity of colours and textures which are found in the natural world. Suggested Learning Activities: Ranger Led Walk Exploration – of the woodland / grassland / wetland to experience what makes it special. This then lends itself nicely to investigating the specific plants, birds and minibeasts that live there. Habitat Jigsaw – a larger scale scene where we have to identify which creature lives where. Journey stick – Whilst exploring the learner collects items to remind them of their journey, telling a story of the day’s events. Natures Palette – in each different environment we experience things differently. Natural Art – using the natural material we find in any particular environment, we can create a work of art to express ourselves and how we feel.
