PRESTONFIELD GENTS
SENIORS SECTION
Newsletter 21 August 2014
Congratulations to the Lothians Handicap Champion.
First item is to offer
congratulations to Keith
Robertson on winning
the Lothians Handicap
Championship.
Keith was representing
the home club,
Prestonfield, with both
the semi-final and final
being played at
Archerfield.
He won the final
against John Watson
(Broomieknowe) by
2&1 after a semi-final
victory by 6&5 over Joe
Glancy (Gifford)
League Match Resuls: Two league matches have been played since the
last newsletter. The team won by 4 games to 2 games in the home
match against Hadddington and followed this up by an excellent away
victory by the same score against Glencorse. Craigmillar Park also won
their penultimate match at home and are therefore 1 point behind
Prestonfield. The final match at home against Craigmillar Park on
Thursday 4 September will decide the league title.
Please see the league website for updated results and league positions.
This is available at: http://southedinburghdistrictseniorgolfleague.webs.com
Pairs Stableford: Ten pairs participated in the competition and the ‘Deas
Cup’ was won by Jim Forsyth and Sandy Ross with a total stableford
score of 45 points.
Friendly Match v Swanston: Due to participation in the league it was
decided that there would only be one friendly match between the clubs.
This would be held at the club which were not hosting the league match
with the league result counting in the overall result. Having lost at
Swanston by a whitewash 6-0 it is pleasing to report the reverse result at
Prestonfield.
Friendly Match v Duddingston: The return away friendly match against
Duddingston Golf Club was played on Monday 18 August. This was
played in a different format with total holes won deciding the winners.
The score resulted in a win for Duddingston by 19 holes to 9 holes. The
overall friendly score was one match apiece. The friendly matches were
extremely enjoyable and will be continued.
Additional Friendly Match v Liberton: Have today made contact with my
counterpart at Liberton and discussed the possibility of arranging friendly
matches between both clubs. The format would be the same as with the
Duddingston matches with the similar catering before and after as
presently for both our league and friendly matches. This would have to
be confirmed by their Committee and if agreed they would be included
from 2015.
Couche Trophy: Contact with ladies made and progressing however
there is a clash of date as the proposed 2 September is the date of the
Ladies Senior Greensomes competition. It has been moved to Tuesday
23 September. Further information to follow.
