We hope you have found these meetings helpful and that they have reassured you of the holistic approach that we take towards the children here at Barlow Hall. This week staff undertook some food awareness training so look out for some good ideas and tips coming soon to help with reducing sugar intake Jayne Kennedy 5AV Class Assembly Date Change Due to the Glaramara Residential trip taking place the week commencing 13/2/17 and the high number of children form Year 5 that are attending it, we have changed the date of Mr Vaughan’s 5AV Class Assembly to Thursday 9th February so that all of the children can take part. School Uniform SPOTLIGHT Reception Class The children are enjoying our new ‘Stickman’ topic which began last week with our Christmas tree recycling where the children were amazed to see the change from tree to stickman and this week we were delighted to welcome two new class pets to Reception Class. They are two stick insects called Ping and Ming. The children have been bringing in privet leaves which they love to for them to eat. Can you spot Ping in this picture? Please can we remind parents that we do ask all children to come to school in full school uniform every day.This consists of white polo shirt, black or grey trousers, skirt or pinafore and a navy blue sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece with the school logo on. Black or white socks may be worn with black shoes. KS2 Dance Club The children have been practicing very hard for our forthcoming dance competitions and final rehearsals are now underway for our ‘Major Lazer/Sia’ mashup dance performance. The children (and Miss. Hobson) are very excited. We will be competing at Heald Place Primary School on Monday the 13th of February, more details to follow. Pet Club Mrs Lavelle’s new pet club proved very popular and the children learnt lots of fabulous new ways to look after their pets at home. You can discover how to look after your pet too, just visit the PDSA website https://www.pdsa.org.uk Page 1 of 2 We will be holding 2 reading workshops for parents to give you the opportunity On Tuesday 24th January at 9.1010.00 we will be holding a Reading Workshop in the Reading Centre for KS1 parents. The workshop will provide fantastic opportunities and ideas to further support reading at home, and give you the opportunity to watch a Guided Reading lesson and find out more about the strategies to use at home to help your child. You will then be able to set a new one. Now log into the app using your new password and make sure your phone is set to allow notifications from the app (do this in your settings) Thank you to all those families who took part in today’s Book Swap event. We had a great response as always with children avidly choosing their new reading material and have managed to raise some more money towards our Reading Bus Appeal. We will confirm the amount raised in next week’s newsletter. Some of our neighbours work nights and come home to find themselves blocked out of their own drives whilst others can not get out of their garden.
