Learning Tennis with Pro Mats Wilander!
On Tuesday, November 10th, several of our YMCA Silver Spring tennis aficionados had their dreams come true,
playing tennis and receiving instruction from seven-time Grand Slam winner and former #1 world-ranked tennis
player Mats Wilander.
Thanks to the partnership between the Y and the Junior Tennis Champions Center, members of YMCA Silver Spring’s
tennis community were invited to play in this special event, receiving tennis tips from Mats, and having the opportunity to speak with him in a reception afterward.
As Debbie Boger, longtime YMCA member shares, “I grew up playing tennis and watching Mats Wilander playing on
television—this [was] a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to meet him, play tennis with him, and speak with him
about his tennis experience!”
“I was honored to be teaching on-court with Mats, and pleased that our members had the chance to meet one of
the greatest tennis players of all time,” said Tim Johnson, YMCA Silver Spring’s Head Tennis Professional. “This
partnership between the YMCA and the JTCC is really paying dividends for our members!”
We hope you’ll continue to stay connected with us through the winter months! Starting in late March, we will offer
exciting camps and programs for youth and adults of all player abilities. In the meantime, you are invited to play in
the JTCC’s indoor courts near the University of Maryland in College Park, MD—at a 15% discount!
