Changing Lives — And Keeping Score The First Tee of Greater Richmond: Charting Our Course 1997 The World Golf Foundation established The First Tee as a not-for-profit organization 501(c)(3). 1998 The First Tee incorporated Richmond First Tee as one of the first chapters. 1999 Richmond First Tee served 36 youth. 2000 The First Tee Chesterfield Golf Course opened to the public. 2001 Kansas State University hosted the inaugural The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academy for participants from around the country. 2003 The Elson Redmond Memorial Driving Range opened as the 100th location of The First Tee program. 2004 The First Tee participants competed side by side with Champions Tour players at the inaugural Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Club at the Nature Valley First Tee Open. 2005 Longitudinal study revealed that youth credit The First Tee with their ability to transfer the life skills they learn in The First Tee program to school and other areas in their lives. 2009 The First Tee of Greater Richmond launched the National School Program in 10 Chesterfield County elementary schools and 10 Richmond elementary schools. 2010 The First Tee of Greater Richmond founded a partnership with VCU to make the Elson Redmond Memorial facility the home of VCU Men’s Golf. 2011 The First Tee’s national board launched the Campaign to Reach 10,000,000 More Young People. 2012 The First Tee ANNIKA Foundation and Florida Hospital for Children created The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits to promote healthy, active lifestyles for young people. The First Tee launched the DRIVE program, an after-school program specifically designed for youth-serving organizations such as the YMCA or Boys & Girls Clubs. 2013 The First Tee of Greater Richmond began weekly programming with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond as part of Altria Corporation’s Success 360o program. 2015 The First Tee of Greater Richmond hosted The First Tee National Par-3 Championship at the Kanawha Club in Manakin-Sabot, highlighting 32 participants from The First Tee from around the country. 2016 The First Tee of Greater Richmond served 44,844 youth.
